Jason Momoa is making it clear that his son did all the work to get his role in Dune: Part 3.
While speaking with Extra, the Aquaman star, 45, opened up about starring alongside his son Nakoa-Wolf, 16, in the upcoming science fiction movie. Momoa, who shares his son and daughter Lola, 18, with ex-wife Lisa Bonet, 57, emphasized that his son obtained his role “all on his own,” with no help from his father.
“A rude awakening is what he’s in for,” Momoa joked to the outlet about his son’s budding acting career. “He’s into the workforce for the first time. It’s going to be good. He did it on his own. I don’t want to help him, and he’s done it all on his own, and good for him.”
“You want your children to be better than you, and I really, actually believe he is,” he added. “I couldn’t do what he’s doing at his age. There’s no way I could sit in a room with Denis Villeneuve and hold my own. I was on Baywatch at 19. He’s 16 and holding s— down with Denis Villeneuve.”
The A Minecraft Movie star continued, “We raised him beautiful[ly]. We raised our children … being loved and being confident in themselves. That is what he is. He’s very confident.”

Momoa and Bonet began dating in 2005. Two years later, they welcomed their first child together, daughter Lola Iolani. In 2008, their son Nakoa-Wolf was born. Momoa and Bonet secretly wed in October 2017, separated in January 2022 and got divorced in January 2024. They were awarded joint legal custody during their divorce.
At the Chief of War premiere on July 18, in Ko Olina Park in Hawaii, the actor was joined by his children, as well as his girlfriend Adria Arjona. Momoa marked the sweet moment with his kids by wearing coordinating “family capes,” as he told PEOPLE.
Momoa wore black pants and a black shirt with his hip-length cape featuring a red and yellow triangular pattered. Nakoa-Wolf wore a similar outfit, with his cape draped over one shoulder, and sported a necklace that is similar to the one Momoa wears in the series. Lola sported a brown cutout maxi dress with a shorter cape draped over her shoulders.
Arjona, in turn, wore a flowy, floor-length maxi dress, featuring a long train and a deep-V neckline, and was all smiles posing on the red carpet with Momoa.

Despite their split, Momoa and Bonet make sure to prioritize their children.
In November 2024, Momoa spoke to PEOPLE about some of the activities he does with his children, including one specific game that sparks some friendly competition between him and his son.
“I find myself not competitive at all, until it gets into it. There are a couple of board games and card games that get me going with my kids,” Momoa said. “But for a while now, my son’s been really beating me, and he loves just rubbing it in my face.”
