Jason Isaacs is passing Lucius Malfoy’s torch!
The actor, 62, congratulated actor-musician Johnny Flynn after he secured the role of Lucius Malfoy in HBO’s upcoming Harry Potter reboot series. Isaacs first portrayed Lucius — the slightly menacing father of Draco Malfoy — in the 2002 film Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.
In a post shared on X, Isaacs praised the 42-year-old Emma actor’s creative prowess as he expressed excitement for seeing Flynn take over.
Issacs raved about Flynn’s acting abilities as he celebrated the casting news.
“A fantastic actor, a lovely man and, irritatingly, a rather brilliant musician too,” Isaacs, 62, wrote. “Couldn’t have handed the snake-topped baton on to anyone better. Just please don’t make him sing…”
He then added a series of hashtags that included #HarryPotter, #JohnnyFlynn, and, to many fans’ alarm, #KillTheElfEarly.
Before the casting news was confirmed, Issacs said he was trying to “milk” his final moments as the only actor who has played Lucius Malfoy.
In April, Isaacs appeared on The Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter podcast and shared he’s relishing in his final moments as the only on-screen Lucius Malfoy.
“I have to say I’ll milk this ‘cause this time next year, there’s gonna be another Lucius Malfoy, and he’s gonna be fantastic, and I’ll be long forgotten. So, I am savoring every other applause I get,” Isaacs said, adding, “I’ve had a good run.”
