“ ‘Rough’ is a broken nail, darling, what I’m having is a train wreck!”
Jane Sibbett’s roles have been nothing short of legendary, and her portrayal of the gold-digging, scheming Clarice Kensington in It Takes Two is no exception.
A cultural staple of the 90s, with hysterical moments and quotes forever ingrained in our childhood psyches, the romantic comedy — starring Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, Kirstie Alley and Steve Guttenberg — became one of the most beloved family films of the decade.
Sibbett’s performance as the over-the-top villainess Clarice was integral to the film’s success, delivering a portrayal we’ll never forget.

From her icy wit to her unforgettable moments (like the moment at Roger Callaway’s engagement party where she forcefully introduces her future stepdaughter, “Whom I absolutely adore”), Sibbett brought something unique to the role with her extravagant antagonism.
“It’s so funny because I was a brand new mom, so I mean, I just came in there full-blown over the top, and I was shocked that Andy Tennant, our director, liked it,” Sibbet tells PEOPLE exclusively. “ ‘I’m not too much?’ [I’d ask] and [he’d say] like, ‘No, go more.’ ”

The Friends actress thought she was “probably being campy,” but portraying the step-monster made her feel far removed from the rest of the cast.
“I felt like I was in my own universe,” she recalls. “I felt like they [Steve, Kirstie and the kids] were acting pretty normal, but I was in some other universe, and they seemed to like it.
While reminiscing about the film, Sibbett shared a surprising memento she kept from the set, one you wouldn’t expect from her character: Clarice’s wedding dress.
“I actually have Clarice’s wedding dress. I was just thinking about that,” she adds. “God, I was just thinking that Dior wedding dress is in my closet, and it’s in two parts. You know that?”
