Jamie Lee Curtis is the new Jessica Fletcher, but she won’t be getting into character for a while.
On Tuesday, July 22, the actress, 66, confirmed to Entertainment Tonight that she would be starring in the Murder, She Wrote reboot movie while attending the Los Angeles premiere of Freakier Friday.
“Oh it’s…” Curtis said with a suspenseful pause before adding, “Happening.”
However, the Oscar winner cautioned that the movie wouldn’t be coming for a while, explaining, “We’re a minute away. But very excited. Very excited.”
Curtis said, “But I’m tamping down my enthusiasm until we start shooting. I have a couple other things to hustle and then I’ll get to enjoy that work.”

PEOPLE previously reported that Curtis was the top choice to play the show’s iconic character — which was previously played by Angela Lansbury — in December, citing Deadline.
Despite there being no deal at the time, it was reported that the movie would be written by Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo (Dumb Money) and produced by Lord Miller and Amy Pascal.

Murder, She Wrote ran for 12 seasons on CBS between 1984 and 1996. The mystery series followed crime writer turned detective Jessica Fletcher as she used her expertise to help authorities tackle crimes.
Certainly no rookie in the thriller genre, Curtis starred in 1978’s horror crime film Halloween before returning for other films in the franchise such as David Gordon Green’s trilogy that concluded with 2022’s Halloween Ends.
She also appeared in the horror-comedy series Scream Queens and 2019’s murder mystery Knives Out.

Curtis is currently showing off her comedy chops in the upcoming Freakier Friday, alongside Lindsay Lohan. The Freak Friday sequel, which will be released in theaters August 8, sees Lohan’s character Anna as a mother to her own teen daughter (Julia Butters), with Curtis returning as Anna’s mom Tess.
