NEED TO KNOW
HUNTR/X may be global superstars in KPop Demon Hunters, but they’re also winning over a fanbase in real life.
The Netflix movie follows a musical girl group — Rumi, Mira and Zoey — who juggle their lives as superstars with a secret mission. After HUNTR/X isn’t able to sell out stadiums, they use their hidden identities as demon hunters to protect their fans from supernatural threats.
Since its June 2025 release, the animated film has become a global sensation, consistently staying on the streamer’s Top 10, and, by August, it was breaking records as the platform’s most popular film of all time with over 236 million views. A massive part of that success comes from its standout soundtrack, with fans crediting HUNTR/X — also known as Huntrix — with delivering the song of the summer.
In recent months, its music (including nine original songs!) has dominated the Billboard charts, making history as the first soundtrack with four simultaneous Top 10 songs on the Billboard Hot 100. According to Tudum, the soundtrack has racked up more than 3 billion global streams, with “Golden” being submitted by Netflix for awards consideration, per Variety.
So, is HUNTR/X a real band? Here’s everything to know about the members behind the KPop Demon Hunters musical trio.

Although the band has created some of summer’s biggest hits, HUNTR/X is a fictional group made for KPop Demon Hunters.

There are several people behind HUNTR/X, given that Rumi, Mira and Zoey each have both a voice actor and a singer. Their characters are voiced by Arden Cho, May Hong and Ji-young Yoo, respectively, but real-life singers perform on behalf of the characters during musical scenes.
EJAE, who sings for the group’s lead Rumi, has written for groups like TWICE, Aespa, Le Sserafim and Red Velvet, per Rolling Stone. She co-wrote, sang and did background vocals/arrangements on several of the movie’s songs, per her Instagram.
In August 2025, she shared an Instagram carousel of images showing the success of HUNTR/X’s music, including “Golden” being at the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100, writing that her 11-year-old self “would be so happy.”
“My dream ever since I gave up being a kpop idol and chose to be a songwriter was to write a top hot 100 song in the US.. and getting #1 felt impossible,” she wrote. “thank you to everyone who made that possible. Thank you to everyone whos been showering so much love and support for the music and movie.”
Audrey Nuna, who is known for her popular singles “damn Right” and “Comic Sans,” which features Jack Harlow, sings for Mira. In August 2025, Nuna opened up to Variety about the film’s success, saying, “I really did have a feeling that this project was going to do very well.”
“I didn’t know that it was just going to completely obliterate its own niche in the sense of just becoming so globally received,” she added.
REI AMI, who performs for Zoey, is a singer, songwriter and rapper who rose to fame following her collaboration with Sub Urban on “Freak,” released in 2020.
Following the film’s release, she posted an Instagram photo of HUNTR/X with on-screen text announcing that the movie had become the most popular Netflix film of all time, captioned, “Thank you omg i can’t stop crying. … Honored to be a part of this. Wow. Thank you.”
But, although HUNTR/X is fictional, EJAE, Nuna and AMI have stepped out together as a trio on several occasions. On Sept. 7, the group will take the stage at the MTV VMAs as presenters.

Though HUNTR/X is fictional, the musical trio draws inspiration from some of this generation’s most popular K-pop groups, including BLACKPINK, ITZY and TWICE.
“Who else?” co-director Maggie Kang told Forbes in July 2025. “I think it was a lot of mixing.”
The K-pop group TWICE also made brief easter egg cameos in the film, including being featured on a poster backstage at the International Idol Awards and their song “Strategy” appearing on the Top 10 Chart that HUNTR/X dominates. Their recorded version of “Takedown” plays at the film’s end credits as well.
As for how their characters were brought to life, Kang revealed that fashionista Mira’s look was inspired by Korean model Ahn So Yeon, while Zoey’s appearance was drawn from several K-pop idols. She also put focus on making sure they were all animated to be different and distinct.
“With their smile, you’ll notice Zoey has more of a heart-shaped mouth when she expresses herself. We wanted Mira to be long and lean because I love that look on a woman. I think that’s so beautiful,” she told the outlet. “With Rumi, we leaned into a very classic, beautiful Korean look.”

When creating HUNTR/X, the filmmakers didn’t just draw upon K-pop sensations, as some of the trio’s performances were even inspired by a popular Broadway show: West Side Story.
Per Tudum, when creating the film’s opening anthem, “How It’s Done,” producers took inspiration from the Tony-winning musical’s hit “Jet Song,” which introduced the audience to the Jets street gang and was used as a model for presenting HUNTR/X to the audience.
“It was so important that we had something that felt like a K-pop hit [and] felt like when you first heard Blackpink,” KPop Demon Hunter executive music producer Ian Eisendrath, who has also worked on Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building, said of the opening number.
He added, “It had to have that energy, it had to set up a unique sonic world for these three girls and how they sing together, and it also had to be a banging opening number that everyone just was drawn into. We went through several different iterations, trying to find a beat and a tempo.”

After watching KPop Demon Hunters and falling in love with the soundtrack, there are questions about whether there’s more to come. While a sequel has yet to be confirmed by Netflix, TheWrap revealed that the streaming platform and Sony Pictures Animation are discussing two sequels.
Kang told the outlet that there is “immense pressure” to deliver a sequel after the success of KPop Demon Hunters — and it’s hard to imagine HUNTR/X without the original voices behind them. But for now, viewers will have to stay tuned to find out.
