More oil — and even more secrets — are about to be bubbling up to the surface on Landman.

The hit Paramount+ show, starring Billy Bob Thornton, is rigging up for a season 2 return. The drama, co-created by Taylor Sheridan and Christian Wallace, focuses on Thornton, who plays Tommy Norris, a landman who works at an independent oil rig in West Texas. The series is based on Boomtown, a 2019 podcast from Texas Monthly.

In addition to Thornton, the rest of the show’s ensemble is rounded out by Demi Moore, Andy Garcia, Ali Larter, Michelle Randolph, Kayla Wallace, James Jordan, Paulina Chávez, Mark Collie and Colm Feore. Sam Elliott joins the cast in season 2, playing T.L., the father of Tommy.

“I can only say this: I’ve known Sam longer than anybody in the cast,” Thornton told Entertainment Weekly about reuniting with Elliott. “He’s been a mentor and a friend and just a hero of mine always.”

Landman premiered in November 2024, and according to Paramount+, its debut was streamed by “more than 35 million” viewers. In March 2025, it was renewed for a second installment.

When does Landman season 2 premiere?

Landman season 2 premieres on Sunday, Nov. 16.

While fans should expect the usual action and drama from a Sheridan series, Thornton teased in a September 2025 Entertainment Weekly interview that Landman season 2 would be more of a “slow burn” compared to season 1.

“Now that the audience knows all the characters, Taylor was able to really dive into the relationships more,” the actor said. “Last season, we had to explain what this business was all about and who the people are.”

Thornton continued, “This season, he was able to really focus in the first few episodes on the family dynamic and the business dynamic. But this one really ramps up as it goes on, and there’s more and more intensity,” he added. 

How many episodes are in Landman season 2?

Landman season 2 will have 10 episodes.

Season 1 of the Paramount+ series also consisted of 10 episodes. According to Paramount+, the series premiere was the “most-watched global premiere” in the history of the streaming platform, and Thornton was aware of the high stakes involved in following up with another season.

“Anytime you have a success and it’s going to continue, there’s always pressure to make sure that it continues,” he told The Hollywood Reporter in November 2025. “If you’re making movies, you do a sequel, there’s always pressure. So, we felt it, but once you start, you just have to forget that and go out there and do your job.”
