NEED TO KNOW
The cast of the Harry Potter series is growing.
On Monday, June 9, HBO announced a slew of new names that have joined the cast of the new series, which will be a faithful adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s bestselling books, with each book getting its own season.
Molly Weasley, Draco and Lucius Malfoy and Petunia and Vernon Dursley are among the roles that have now been cast in the series, along with Cornelius Fudge, Parvati Patil, Seamus Finnigan and Lavender Brown.
Rivals star Katherine Parkinson has been cast as the Weasley family matriarch, originated by Julie Walters in the films, and inheriting the Malfoy family legacy from Tom Felton and Jason Isaacs are Lox Pratt, who will play Draco, and Johnny Flynn, who will play Lucius.
Masters of the Air and The Morning Show alum Bel Powley has been cast as Petunia Dursley, the stepmother to the titular wizard, who Fiona Shaw played in the films. Also, Daniel Rigby will play Vernon Dursley, who was originated by the late Richard Griffiths.

Bertie Carvel will play Cornelius Fudge, who the late Robert Hardy played in the films. Additionally, joining the Hogwarts class are Leo Earley as Seamus Finnigan, Alessia Leoni as Parvati Patil, and Sienna Moosah as Lavender Brown.
The latest round of casting follows a May announcement that the streamer found its leading trio. On May 27, HBO announced that Dominic McLaughlin will play the titular character, originated by Daniel Radcliffe, and Arabella Stanton and Alastair Stout will play Hermione Granger (originated by Emma Watson) and Ron Weasley (Rupert Grint), respectively.
In a press release, showrunner Francesca Gardiner and executive producer Mark Mylod said they were “delighted to announce we have found our Harry, Hermione, and Ron” following an “extraordinary search” for the iconic roles.

“The talent of these three unique actors is wonderful to behold, and we cannot wait for the world to witness their magic together onscreen,” they said of McLaughlin, Stanton and Stout. “We would like to thank all the tens of thousands of children who auditioned. It’s been a real pleasure to discover the plethora of young talent out there.”

Several other major roles for the upcoming series have also been announced. Frost recently opened up about his plans for the beloved character, who Robbie Coltrane originated in the films.
“You get cast because you’re going to bring something to that. While I’m really aware of what went before me in terms of Robbie’s amazing performance, I’m never going to try and be Robbie,” Frost, 53, told Collider.
“I’m going to try to do something, not ‘different’ — I think you have to be respectful to the subject matter — but within that, there’s scope for minutia.”
