NEED TO KNOW
Halley Kate is giving followers a deeper look into her opinions about all things wedding in a recent TikTok.
The influencer, 25, announced her engagement to her longtime boyfriend Reed Williams last week on Instagram, sharing details from the Switzerland proposal.
However, Kate has been vocal about her opinions on traditional weddings and other industry staples like proposals.
In a video posted Jan. 31, the influencer opened up about her engagement and how she let her fiancé pick out her ring with “zero input from me.”
“For me, my opinion, if I was going to design the ring and kind of plan everything, then in my opinion, we could just go to a jewelry store, buy it together, and just be engaged, walking out of that jewelry store,” she said.
“Proposing is kind of stupid to me,” she continued. “It’s like, ‘What are we doing? Why are you underneath?’ I feel like if you’re gonna propose, it should be a genuine question. Like, you have this ring I have never seen before. You’re dead ass asking, ‘Do you wanna marry me?'”

Going on, Kate opened up more about her fiancé picking out her ring, going on to say that while Reed had done a really good job, she didn’t necessarily believe in the adage that you will love a ring your significant other picked out for you just because they picked it out for you.
“People always ask me, like, ‘Oh, where do you shop for him? Like he’s a f—ing toddler. He dresses himself. Honestly, he picks out my clothes half the time. I knew he would do something custom and unique and cool, which he did.”
Kate also addressed some of the internet scrutiny surrounding influencer engagement rings, including the choice that some influencers make to do sponsored engagement rings.
“Reed bought this,” she clarified, addressing claims that her diamond was lab-grown. “This is a natural diamond.”
“I do think I love this more because he designed it, but at the same time, it’s just overall, like, actually a really good ring. Also, that’s why when he proposed to me, I was, like, shook. But then also, I, like, snatch that s— out of the box.”
Days after her engagement announcement, Kate shared more details about her impending wedding in a series of Instagram Stories.
“Why don’t you want a traditional wedding?” a follower asked in a question box on Kate’s story.

The influencer launched into an explanation, writing over the Stories post, that while she loved “friends weddings and being a guest,” she didn’t necessarily love “where the tradition of a wedding stems from.”
“TO ME it’s very much giving women were property and handed off from their dad to their new man,” she explained of her rationale.
“Also I HATEEE forced attention,” she continued. “Don’t get me wrong, I love attention like wearing a cute outfit and people just compliment me or something because I don’t feel like anyone one had to do that. I hate my birthday for the same reason, I hate when everyone has to pay attention to you because something’s about you, or like everyone has to tell you they are having so much fun because it’s your wedding/birthday!”
