NEED TO KNOW
Glen Powell bared it all — literally — while filming his new movie The Running Man.
Powell, 36, recently discussed the upcoming action film while speaking on a panel at New York Comic Con. During the conversation, which was also attended by the film’s director, Edgar Wright, the actor shared one of his most surreal behind-the-scenes moments while making the movie.
“That towel scene,” Powell began.
“Edgar asked me to do [a] towel scene in the summertime. We shot that in February in Bulgaria,” he continued with a laugh, adding, “We become friends really fast.”
While speaking exclusively to PEOPLE after the panel, the Top Gun: Maverick actor also shared that there were several particularly unexpected moments while filming — especially involving the stunts.

“There’s some stuff where you’ll probably see some authentic reactions when I fall down the side of a building,” he said. “They let out a cable loose a little before I thought it was going to be let loose, which, you know, if you fall even just a couple feet down the side of a building when you’re not expecting it, it’s a little nerve-wracking.”
“There’s another [stunt] that we have [where] there were a few more explosions that hit me in the face [than expected], and a fire extinguisher that exploded before it was supposed to that definitely took me by surprise,” he continued.
Powell added that he thinks “being surprised” on action sets can actually be a good thing.
“I always try to film the rehearsal. I always try to keep myself surprised because that’s all the good stuff. You never want to be too surefooted on a set,” he explained.
Powell went on to share his favorite on-set memory — and revealed it had a lot more to do with hanging out with costars Colman Domingo, 55, and Josh Brolin, 57, than any actual on-camera moment.

“There [was] a day with Colman Domingo and Josh Brolin where, you know, we got to kick it on The Running Man set, and [they are] two actors that I really respect immensely. And not only that, they’re just really good, nice people, and I think we got to really talk about how lucky we were feeling just to be on the set together,” he recalled.

“I love this job more than anything, but when you get to do it with, like, wonderful people that, you know, you get to cheer each other on, even after you wrap. You get to look at what they’re doing and who they’re building with, and all that stuff. It’s the best.”
He added, “Those are two guys I count as my close friends now, and that was where the friendship started. So that’s a warm place in my heart.”
The upcoming movie takes place in a near-future dystopia in which a man (Powell) must try to survive 30 days while being hunted by professional assassins — all while being filmed for a popular national television show.
The Running Man premieres in theaters on Nov. 14.
