NEED TO KNOW
Wicked: For Good provided closure to many story lines from the first part of the stage-to-screen adaptation, but left audiences with one burning question: who plays Dorothy Gale?
Nearly one year after the release of Wicked, part two of the film officially premiered in theaters on Nov. 21. The movie, which stars Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande as Elphaba and Glinda, is an adaptation of the Tony-winning Broadway musical, though director Jon M. Chu took some creative liberties when bringing it to the big screen.
The movie highlights the origin stories of The Wizard of Oz’s Scarecrow (Jonathan Bailey) and the Tin Man (Ethan Slater), just as the Broadway musical does. Meanwhile, Dorothy Gale — the iconic character from Kansas who dons a blue gingham dress and pigtails — is featured more heavily in Wicked: For Good than she is in the stage show, though audiences never see her face.
“I didn’t want to step on who you think Dorothy is in whatever story that you came into this with,” Chu told PEOPLE in October 2025, adding that ultimately, the story is “still Elphaba and Glinda’s journey, and she is a pawn in the middle of all of it.”
The movie’s credits list Bethany Weaver as the actress behind the role.
Here’s everything to know about Bethany Weaver, who plays Dorothy Gale in Wicked: For Good.
She is based in the U.K.

Weaver is based in Surrey, a town located in South East England, according to her WhatsOnStage bio. While little is known about her upbringing, Weaver was born Nov. 21, 1995, and has a twin sister, per her Instagram.
Based on her Instagram, she has spent a lot of time in the Middle East, calling Dubai her “favourite place” and writing that Lebanon has her “heart.” She has also shared photos from her travels to Egypt and Norway.
She is a dancer, actress and Pilates instructor

Weaver is a dancer, actress and choreographer, who has held many titles on London’s West End.
“First dance solo, Third West End Show, First time choreographing a show,” she wrote on Instagram with a video from a June performance. “This is the year of big goals, big blessings and big changes for the better ✨🙏.”
Outside of the arts, she spends a lot of time in the Pilates studio.
“When I’m not performing, choreographing or acting, you’ll find me here on the reformer, at the barre or on the mat 💜,” she wrote on Instagram in March 2025. “I’m so grateful for the mini empire I have built for myself that allows me to live the life I have always dreamed of ✨ Here’s to continuing to grow, build and conquer ✨.”
She trained at the Urdang Academy in London

As noted on her management’s website, Weaver trained at The Urdang Academy, the Guildford School of Acting and Laine Theatre Arts.
She graduated from the Urdang Academy in June 2018, according to her Instagram. “Here’s to the very exciting future ♡,” she wrote the day before her graduation.
According to the academy’s website, Urdang is recognized as “one of the UK’s finest performing arts colleges with an international reputation,” with many graduates going on to land leading roles in West End shows.
She manifested that she would “one day” be in Wicked
Universal Pictures
Dorothy may not be the one with wizard powers in Wicked: For Good, but Weaver might have conjured up some magic to land the role.
In March 2022, she shared a video on Instagram singing “The Wizard and I,” writing in the caption that she was “aggressively manifesting that one day I will be in wicked!”

Ahead of the Wicked: For Good premiere, Universal Pictures never disclosed the identity of the actress portraying Dorothy, though Weaver was listed in the credits as the actress behind Dorothy Gale. Additionally, her public résumé on her management’s site lists an undisclosed role in Wicked and Wicked: For Good.
Although Dorothy has a slightly bigger role in Wicked: For Good than she does in the Broadway musical, she isn’t exactly a character in the movie, as she has no dialogue and is only seen from behind or largely from a distance.
“I think that’s such a wonderful thing to do, because then everyone gets to keep the Dorothy that they know,” Erivo told Empire Magazine in September 2025.
While the actors behind Dorothy’s crew — including The Cowardly Lion (Colman Domingo), Scarecrow and the Tin Man — were all among those who joined for the extravagant Wicked: For Good press tour, Weaver didn’t attend any of the stops.
