NEED TO KNOW
Ella Stiller is the latest guest star to grace our screens on And Just Like That… season 3.
After pop-ins from the likes of Rosie O’Donnell, Jenifer Lewis and Patti LuPone earlier this season, Ella, the 23-year-old daughter of Ben Stiller and Christine Taylor, appears in the July 31 episode, titled “Better Than Sex.”
Ella plays Mia, a woman who’s pregnant with Brady’s (Niall Cunningham) baby. Brady’s the son of Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) and Steve (David Eigenberg).

At the beginning of the episode, Brady told his parents he “got someone pregnant” at a family dinner.
Miranda and Steve are shocked and said they didn’t know he was seeing anyone. Brady explained that “it’s this girl I’ve hooked up with maybe twice,” and he doesn’t know her last name, only that her first name is Mia.
Brady said he only found out because he “bumped into her” and she was “clearly pregnant.” He added, “She said that’s the only reason she told me, ’cause it was so obvious.”
Miranda asked Brady if Mia was planning to keep the baby or put it up for adoption, to which he just shrugged. This caused Steve to spiral.
“You were just getting your life together, and now you have f—– it up so bad!” Steve yelled.
Brady reassured his dad that he “can still do my life” because Mia “doesn’t want me involved.”
This doesn’t satisfy Steve, who continued to scream at Brady and even threatened to hit him if he shrugged his shoulders again. In response, Brady left the apartment.
Miranda then called her friends for support.
After dropping the news, Charlotte (Kristin Davis) reacted by saying it’s her “worst nightmare” and immediately apologized to Miranda.
When Miranda said she’s going to be a grandma, Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) asked her, “Are you?”
“Well, if she doesn’t want to be involved with Brady, that kind of means you, too,” Carrie explained.
Later in the episode, Miranda decided to confront Mia in an effort to get a handle on the situation.
Miranda, who brought Charlotte as backup, said she planned to make an “unannounced visit to the de facto baby mama of my adult, wannabe-chef, non-condom-wearing son.”
Upon entering the salon Mia works at, Miranda said Mia’s services “come highly recommended,” which confused Mia, who admitted she doesn’t work there often because she’s focused on “making a wellness app” as her “true passion.” The receptionist, also confused, wondered why someone recommended Mia, a shampoo girl.
As Mia is washing Miranda’s hair, she farts — a lot. “I’m sorry. It’s so mortifying,” Mia apologized. “I’m still getting used to all this gas since I’m pregnant.”
Miranda congratulated Mia and said she must be so excited, to which Mia hilariously replied, “Well, honestly, I was gonna get an abortion ’til I realized the baby would be a double Libra. It’s gonna be such a f—— vibe.”
Miranda started to ask increasingly invasive questions about the baby’s father, with Mia answering, “He’s cool, I guess. It’s not like we’re gonna raise the kid together. F— buddy status, you know?”
After Miranda questioned how Mia could know who the baby’s father is and if she planned to get a paternity test, her cover is blown and she revealed, “I’m ‘f— buddy’s mother.”
Mia began spraying Miranda with water and called her deception “so gross and inappropriate.”

“You have to be a Taurus,” Mia reasoned. Miranda apologized and said she was just seeking “some kind of a connection so our family can get to know this little boy or girl.”
This was the last straw for Mia, who snarkily replied, “Little boy or girl? You’re so binary.”
Ella’s guest role on And Just Like That… is made even more special by the fact that she has a connection to the Sex and the City universe.
Ella’s paternal grandmother, Anne Meara, played Steve’s mother, Mary, in four episodes of Sex and the City.

Meara first appeared in season 5 when Miranda agreed to have Brady baptized.
The actress, who died in 2015, popped up again as Mary at the end of season 6, when Steve and Miranda took care of her when she was in bad health.
Ella has followed in her parents’ and grandparents’ footsteps as an actress and graduated from Juilliard in 2024.
And Just Like That… airs Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET on HBO Max.
