Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban were married for 19 years before their shocking separation.
On Sept. 29, PEOPLE confirmed that the Big Little Lies actress and the “Blue Ain’t Your Color” singer had split. Sources shared at the time that Kidman was leaning on her close family members during the difficult time.
Kidman and Urban, who both grew up in Australia, met in 2005 and got married on June 25, 2006, in Sydney. They went on to welcome two daughters together: Sunday Rose (born in July 2008) and Faith Margaret (born in December 2010). Prior to her relationship with Urban, Kidman was married to Tom Cruise from 1990 to 2001, and they share two children together: Isabella Jane (born in December 1992) and Connor (born in January 1995).
Throughout the course of their relationship, both Kidman and Urban supported each other at various award shows, red carpet appearances, premieres, concerts and more. Kidman made their split official on Sept. 30 when she filed for divorce.

Kidman and Urban celebrated their 19th anniversary three months before news of their separation

Kidman and Urban paid tribute to a major milestone just three months before news of their split. The couple celebrated their 19th wedding anniversary on June 25, 2025, and Kidman honored the occasion by posting a photo of them cuddling up together.
“Happy Anniversary Baby ❤️ @KeithUrban,” she captioned the post.
Meanwhile, Urban didn’t mark the anniversary on social media, but one month before that, he shared a series of photos with Kidman of the two smiling together after he won the Triple Crown Award at the ACM Awards in May.
Earlier in the night, Urban gave Kidman a special acknowledgement by saying in his acceptance speech, “My wife, Nicole Mary, is here tonight. I love you, babygirl.”
Kidman was “fighting to save her marriage” to Urban

On Sept. 29, PEOPLE confirmed that Kidman and Urban has broken up after 19 years of marriage. Sources later spoke about how Kidman had been “fighting” to make their relationship work.
“She didn’t want this,” a source shared. “She has been fighting to save the marriage.”
TMZ was first to report news of the split, claiming that they had been living separately since the early summer.
Kidman has been leaning on her family — especially her sister — for support amid the split

Amid her separation from Urban, Kidman has been relying on her family members for support — especially her younger sister, Antonia Kidman.
“Nicole’s sister has been a rock, and the entire Kidman family has come together to support one another,” a source told PEOPLE.

After PEOPLE confirmed Kidman and Urban’s separation, an insider shared that the country singer had gotten his own place. Around the same time, Urban was also traveling the world on his High and Alive World Tour.
Meanwhile, Kidman continued living at their home in Nashville, Tenn., and spent the summer with her children when she wasn’t filming Practical Magic 2 in the United Kingdom. The actress later posted about her “summer memories” by sharing photos from the summer with her daughters and other family members.
“While Keith has been away on tour all summer, Nicole and her daughters have been inseparable, spending time together bonding,” an insider told PEOPLE in August. “Now the focus is back to school in Nashville, where Nic has been getting the girls ready for the new year.”
The source added, “Nicole lives full-time in Nashville. She loves the tight-knit community and group of friends that she has built, and it’s the perfect place to raise her children.”

While the couple’s separation came as a shock to many of their fans, PEOPLE learned that their relationship reportedly took a turn after Urban bought a new home.
“Their lives were moving in different directions, and once he quietly set up his own place, it felt like the writing was on the wall,” a source explained of Urban moving out.
The insider continued, “It really hasn’t been a secret in their circles that Keith and Nicole have been living separately for a while now. People close to Keith felt like the split was kind of inevitable.”
Neither Kidman nor Urban has spoken out about their separation, but she filed for divorce on Sept. 30.
