Prime Video’s German-language drama series was an immediate hit after its May 2024 debut and was renewed for a second season two weeks later. Now, school is almost back in session as season 2 of Maxton Hall premieres on Nov. 7.

Adapted from German author Mona Kasten’s trilogy, Save Me, Save You and Save Us, the series centers on Ruby Bell (Harriet Herbig-Matten), a determined scholar at a prestigious boarding school, Maxton Hall, with aspirations to attend Oxford.

As Ruby navigates the academic landscape amongst her wealthy peers, she ultimately gets entangled in an unlikely romance with James Beaufort (Damian Hardung), heir to his family’s fortune.

Despite attempts to ignore a growing spark, the two develop a nurturing romance as they bond over personal challenges and family secrets. However, the installment ends in a devastating finale, seemingly signaling that the pair might be on different paths.

What is Maxton Hall season 2 about?

According to the official Prime Video synopsis, season 2 picks up right where the season 1 finale left off.

“After their passionate night together in Oxford and her greatest life goal within reach, everything seems to be going perfectly for Ruby,” it reads. “But a stroke of fate in James’ family changes everything and James himself, of all people, brings her back from cloud nine to a harsh reality.”

The summary concludes by noting Ruby’s desire for her “old life back,” where she was seemingly an unknown student at Maxton Hall. Still, she “can’t forget James — especially since he’s doing everything he can to win her back.”

In an interview with Yahoo Entertainment, Herbig-Matten said fans can look forward to “a lot of drama” in the second season.

“You can expect a lot of drama and ups and downs,” she told the outlet. “[James] is changing a lot and working on himself. [Ruby] is doing her thing and she’s not changing for him. She’s [setting] boundaries and that’s really important.”

Herbig-Matten also added that there will be a significant emphasis on female friendships in season 2.

“We focus a lot on the female friendships with Lydia, Lin and Ember,” she said. “I’m really happy about it.”

Who is in the cast of Maxton Hall season 2?

According to Prime Video, Herbig-Matten and Hardung are returning.

Additionally, series regulars such as Sonja Weißer (Lydia), Ben Felipe (Cyril), Fedja van Huêt (Mortimer), Runa Greiner (Ember), Justus Riesner (Alistair), Andrea Guo (Lin) and Eli Riccardi (Elaine) will also reprise their roles from the first season.

When will Maxton Hall season 2 be released?

Season 2 of Maxton Hall premieres Nov. 7, with the first three episodes dropping at once. After that, a new episode will follow every week until the finale on Nov. 28.

Like the first season, season 2 will consist of six episodes.

It has been over a year since the first season premiered, but in March 2025, Amazon provided an update to Deadline that fans could expect the new episodes “at the end of the year.”

“We want to offer fans around the globe the best Maxton Hall experience,” an Amazon spokesperson told the outlet. “As such, we’re intensely working on a first class production and music composition for the series, including comprehensive language versions. We promise the wait will be worth it.”

Yes, an official trailer for Maxton Hall season 2 was released on Oct. 2. It has since racked up more than 1 million views on YouTube.

The preview gave a sneak peek of the boarding school scandals and romantic drama that lie ahead for Ruby, James and the other Maxton Hall students.

“We kind of knew reading the first draft of the script for the second season that it was going to be much bleaker, but also more honest in a way and more grown up,” Hardung told PEOPLE.

“Which I think is important. Because we’ve seen him [James], the last time, when his mother has just passed away,” he continued. “And I feel like …. [he] needs to have a certain timeframe of actually working on his grief and going through the different stages of grief.”
