NEED TO KNOW
Ellen DeGeneres may be ready for her return to TV!
The 67-year-old has been taking some time off since The Ellen DeGeneres Show ended in May 2022 after 19 seasons. She embarked on a stand-up tour last year, but canceled several dates and then released a Netflix special, which she declared was “the last time you’re going to see me.”
In the special, she addressed the toxic workplace claims that were alleged against her in a 2020 Buzzfeed report, and joked about being “kicked out of show business” for being “mean,” though she admitted to having a “hard time” amid the backlash, which stained the final two seasons of her eponymous talk show.
“I’m making jokes about what happened to me, but it was devastating,” she said in Ellen DeGeneres: For Your Approval. “It took a long time for me to want to do anything again.”
Now that she’s started fresh in the U.K., DeGeneres might be ready to dip her toes back into the hosting world.
The comedian and her wife Portia De Rossi decided to leave the U.S. and moved to the Cotswolds in November last year, and while they have been staying low-key since relocating, DeGeneres made her first public appearance in the UK on Sunday, July 20.
In a conversation with English TV and radio presenter Richard Bacon in Cheltenham, DeGeneres admitted that there’s “a lot” about her show that she misses as she discussed the possibility of revisiting a talk show.

“I want to have fun, I want to do something. I do like my chickens, but I’m a little bit bored,” she admitted in the conversation, per BBC.
She’s not sure, though, whether the recipe she followed for nearly two decades would work again.
Reflecting on how things have changed and the evolving TV landscape, DeGeneres said, “I just feel like people are watching on their phones, or people aren’t really paying attention as much to televisions, because we’re so inundated with information and entertainment.”
Still, she said she “would do the same thing here,” referring to the U.K., that she did with Ellen in L.A. “I would love to do that again.”
She’s planning her next move “very carefully,” she added.
During the conversation, DeGeneres also revealed the motive behind her move to the UK for the first time.
She was asked point-blank if President Donald Trump was the reason she and de Rossi, 52, relocated, to which she said, “Yes.”

Their initial plan was to spend part of the year in the Cotswolds, but that changed after the election.
“We got here the day before the election and woke up to lots of texts from our friends with crying emojis, and I was like, ‘He got in.’ And we’re like, ‘We’re staying here,'” she recalled.
The couple are enjoying “a simpler way of life” now that they’ve settled into their new routine.
“It’s clean. Everything here is just better – the way animals are treated, people are polite. I just love it here,” DeGeneres said.

“We moved here in November, which was not the ideal time, but I saw snow for the first time in my life. We love it here,” she continued. “Portia flew her horses here, and I have chickens, and we had sheep for about two weeks.”
