Elizabeth Olsen may not boast Oscar nominations or any Emmy wins, but she is one of the better actors of her generation. Her career has spanned both major mainstream content and smaller movies and TV shows.
On the more mainstream side of things, she is part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), where she plays Scarlet Witch in WandaVision, Avengers: Age of Ultron, and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. This is by far her best-known role to most people.
On the other hand, she is also a skilled actor in award-winning, high-caliber works such as the HBO TV miniseries Love & Death. She also played a main character in the notable 2011 indie film Martha Marcy May Marlene, and a main role in Wind River.
Now, Olsen is working on building up her career both in and outside the MCU. Earlier this year, she was in a sci-fi film that had a lackluster initial box office, but is now doing well on streaming.
The Assessment Is A Streaming Hit
The Movie Made Very Little In Theaters
The Assessment has become a streaming hit. The movie is a dystopian sci-fi film centered around a couple who are trying to become parents. They live, however, in a population-controlled world wherein anyone wishing to become parents has to go through a strict assessment in order to qualify for parenthood.
The film is directed by Fleur Fortune and came out in limited release in the United States on March 21. In addition to Olsen, the leading cast includes Alicia Vikander, Himesh Patel, Charlotte Richie, Leah Harvey, and Minnie Driver.
The Assessment made only $279,328 at the box office, but it generally got strong reviews. The film has an 83% Tomatometer on Rotten Tomatoes.
Now, The Assessment has found a significant streaming audience, as it makes the Hulu charts. At the time of writing, the Olsen-led sci-fi film is no. 2 on Hulu’s movie charts. This comes two days after the film debuted on the platform on July 19.
Our Take On The Assessment’s Streaming Success
The Film Is Wacky
Almost no one saw The Assessment when it was in theaters, but I was one of the select few. As a lover of small-scale sci-fi and an Olsen fan from her Love and Death tenure, this movie was inherently in my wheelhouse. As ScreenRant’s Mae Abdulbaki reflected in her review, I found The Assessment to be a bit underwhelming.

That said, this film is a worthy streaming hit. It presents an insane and strict near-future world, and goes to places that are off-the-wall and unexpected. As much as I find flaws in the movie, it has stuck with me, and it seems that audiences are seeing the same merit as The Assessment becoming a streaming hit.
