Grigor Dimitrov has Eiza González in his corner following his devastating Wimbledon withdrawal.
The 34-year-old tennis star ended up hurting his right pectoral area after a backhand volley in his third set against Jannik Sinner on Monday, July 7.
After being evaluated by medical staff, Dimitrov decided he could not continue in the tournament. Despite Dimitrov leading with a match with two sets to love, Sinner advanced to the next round.
As seen on footage shared by Wimbledon’s Instagram page, Dimitrov was given a standing ovation from the crowd following the match’s end.
“A sight we never want to see. Grigor Dimitrov is forced to retire while leading two sets to love. Everyone at #Wimbledon is wishing you a speedy recovery, Grigor 💚💜,” the caption read.
González, Dimitrov’s girlfriend, shared her support in the comment section, writing, “A WINNER. He will build an even better story. Stronger inside and out. ❤️.”
The actress, 35, also penned a sweet tribute to him on her Instagram Stories.
“Love of my life. I couldn’t be more proud of you. You are BEYOND outstanding. This is just a moment that will pass and will make you even stronger. But watching you today alongside the world was a reminder of who YOU are. You’re a winner. We all saw it. And you’ll do it again. ❤️ I love you @grigordimitrov,” her message read.
Dimitrov has retired in 10 major tournaments in his career, per ESPN. He’s failed to complete a match at five consecutive Grand Slam tournaments, the longest streak by a man in the Open era.
“He’s been so unlucky in the past couple of years. An incredible player. A good friend of mine, also. We understand each other very well, off the court, too,” Sinner said of Dimitrov after the match. “I hope he has a speedy recovery.”

González and the tennis player went Instagram official in May, after they first sparked romance rumors in April when they were photographed holding hands while out together in Madrid.
“Happiest bday to the man of my dreams. @grigordimitrov you’re one of one. You truly are my absolutely favorite human, and I can’t believe I’ve been lucky enough to find you. You’ve restored so much in me I didn’t think was possible,” she wrote.
“To the kindest most thoughtful and caring man. I admire every inch of the human you are and are becoming. I cannot wait to celebrate many many more. I love you G. ❤️,” the post continued.
