NEED TO KNOW
Dick Van Dyke is almost 100 — and the city of Malibu will be celebrating in style with the world premiere of a documentary celebrating the iconic entertainer’s life and career.
The Van Dyke Endowment of the Arts and Malibu Film Society are joining forces to present VANDY DAYS!: Celebrating Dick Van Dyke’s 100th Birthday!, a two-week, citywide celebration honoring the beloved local icon on the occasion of his 100th birthday.
From November 28 through December 14, a number of events and activities will take place across Malibu, including a special world premiere of Dick Van Dyke: A 100th Celebration on Sunday, Dec. 7 at 2 p.m. The feature-length documentary traces Van Dyke’s life and career and features some of his most iconic film and television moments, as well as interviews with Van Dyke himself and his friends and co-stars.
The film is directed by Emmy-winning filmmaker Steve Boettcher, who will be present for a pre-screening Q&A.

As PEOPLE earlier reported, the film has been in the works for some 30 years, and features interviews with a number of now-deceased Hollywood titans, including Mary Tyler Moore, Carl Reiner and Betty White.
“Our premise was to kind of interview the people that worked with him and not people that remember watching him all the time,” Boettcher told PEOPLE of the film, adding: “So it’s kind of like all the people that were there, lightning in a bottle with him.”
A Van Dyke-inspired costume contest (featuring celebrity judges including Van Dyke’s wife, Arlene, 54) will precede the film premiere at Malibu City Hall. The film will screen in theaters nationwide Dec. 13-14.
Events also include screenings of several of Dick Van Dyke’s most beloved films, a birthday card-signing event, and a closing night dinner.
“We’re genuinely honored to be a part of the celebration – and really excited to host so many fun events,” Scott Tallal, President of Malibu Film Society, said in a release sent to PEOPLE. “Dick’s wife, Arlene, couldn’t have said it better: the couple could have held a fancy celebration in New York or LA, but they’re keeping it here in Malibu to spread joy throughout the community and help our local businesses recover from the recent wildfires.”
