Derek Hough can add something new to his resume.
The ballroom dancer, 40, is joining Extra as the host of its upcoming 32nd season, which premieres Sept. 8.
Hough will join longtime correspondent Terri Seymour and senior correspondent and weekend host Mona Kosar Abdi for the new season.
In a statement, he expressed his excitement about taking on the brand-new role.
“The ballroom has been my stage, my home, and my launchpad. Now, I’m stepping into an exciting new spotlight as the host of Extra,” he said in a press release on Aug. 13.
“I’m truly looking forward to collaborating with this incredible team, diving into this next creative chapter, and connecting with fans and audiences in a whole new way.”
Hough continued, “It’s an honor to join a show that’s been a cornerstone of entertainment news for over 30 years — and I’m ready to help lead it into a bold, fresh new era for Season 32 and beyond.”
News of his new role comes weeks after he and his wife revealed they are expecting their first child together.
In a July 22 Instagram post, Hough and Hayley Erbert Hough posed with a strip of sonogram photos to announce Hayley’s pregnancy.
“We can’t believe the biggest thing to happen to us could be so small ♥️,” they captioned their joint post.
The exciting pregnancy news comes a year and a half after Hayley underwent an emergency craniectomy in the middle of their Symphony of Dance tour in December 2023.
She was diagnosed with a cranial hematoma from a burst blood vessel following the Washington, D.C. performance, Derek shared in an Instagram post at the time, and required emergency surgery. She’s since made a full recovery, which Derek has called a “miracle.”
Derek is also returning as a judge on the upcoming season of Dancing with the Stars.
He will again be joined on the judges panel by Carrie Ann Inaba and Bruno Tonioli for season 34.

In April, he told PEOPLE how excited he is about the season’s first official celebrity cast member, Robert Irwin.
“It’s been 10 years since that little guy was on that front row rooting for [his sister] Bindi Irwin. And to see the man that he’s become in short 10 years is pretty amazing, man,” Derek said of the 21-year-old. “We’re really lucky to have him.”
Influencer Alix Earle was also revealed as an upcoming cast member on the season, along with Secret Lives of Mormon Wives stars Jen Affleck and Whitney Leavitt.
