Demi Lovato’s husband, Jordan “Jutes” Lutes, is opening up about an “unreal” moment from the couple’s California wedding.
During an interview on the Zach Sang Show, published on Dec. 11, the 34-year-old music producer chatted about the thrill of having Goo Goo Dolls frontman John Rzeznik perform live at his and Lovato’s May 25 nuptials. Rzeznik, 60, sang the Buffalo-born band’s 1998 mega hit “Iris” for the couple’s first dance.
“That’s like one of the coolest things,” Jutes said. “That was, in the moment, me and Demi were looking at each other, and I was just like, ‘What’s going on right now?!’ I was like, ‘This is the most iconic song ever. He’s right there, and it’s for us!’ ”
“Icon. Such a legend for doing that,” he added of Rzeznik, who wrote “Iris” for the movie City of Angels. “Forever grateful.”

Jutes went on to describe the wedding performance as “a movie moment” and noted how Rzeznik still sounds as incredible as ever after all these years.
“It was just him and an acoustic [guitar]. I was thinking — ’cause I looked up the acoustic version, a couple different acoustic versions online — and they were kind of more chill. So I was like, that’s obviously what he’s going to do. There’s no way he’s going to come in and just like rip — and he just ripped it.”
Jutes said Rzeznik’s powerhouse performance “had everyone singing” along.
“I was like, ‘Dude, this is like a sold-out concert level,’ ” Jutes explained, later adding, “He really killed it. It was unreal. All my friends still hit me to this day, and they’re like, ‘Was just driving to work thinking about the ‘Iris.’ It’s one of those things where I’m like, ‘I still can’t believe that actually happened.’ ”

Lovato, 33, previously told Vogue that having Rzeznik sing live for her and Jutes’ special day was “surreal.”
“This was a pinch-us moment. It’s our favorite song and has so much meaning to both of us,” she said.
After the wedding, the Goo Goo Dolls shared a black-and-white photo on Instagram of the newlywed couple dancing on a stage as Rzeznik sang and played guitar in the background. They wrote in the caption of the May 28 post: “It was an absolute pleasure attending the wedding of @ddlovato & @jutesmusic and performing ‘Iris’ during their first dance together as husband & wife ❤️💍.”
Lovato replied in the comments, “Unreal!!!! Forever grateful and still blown away!!! THANK YOU,” while Jutes chimed in to add that it was a “core memory” and that Rzeznik “absolutely smashed it.”
Weeks after her December 2023 engagement to Jutes, Lovato shared that it was her dream to have Rzeznik sing “Iris” at her wedding.

“That would be so special and so incredible,” she said during a conversation with Donna Farizan that aired on Today with Hoda and Jenna on Feb. 2, 2024.
The couple’s wedding also featured another memorable musical moment. Lovato told Vogue that pal Paris Hilton took over the DJ booth at a late-night afterparty following the ceremony and reception.
“Paris literally shook the dance floor with her DJ skills,” she recalled. “And I mean the entire floor moved with her beats.”
