David Henrie is remembering a “really, really fun” hangout with Selena Gomez and their respective partners.
The Wizards Beyond Waverly Place star, 36, revealed to PEOPLE on set of the series’ forthcoming second season that he and his wife, Maria Cahill, recently joined Gomez and Benny Blanco for a “double date” involving wine and Italian food.
“We went on a double date not too long ago and with her and Benny, and that was fun. There was wine. There was good wine,” Henrie says. “Benny knows his wine, and he knows food, and we had a great time.”
As for his impression of Blanco, who is currently planning his wedding with Gomez, Henrie adds that “it was great to get to know him.”

Wizards, which returns for a second season on Friday, Sept. 12 and on Disney+ on Wednesday, Oct. 8, features Henrie reprising his role as Justin Russo. Janice LeAnn Brown (Billie), Alkaio Thiele (Roman Russo), Max Matenko (Milo Russo), Taylor Cora (Winter) and Mimi Gianopulos (Giada Russo) round out the cast.
Elsewhere during PEOPLE’s set visit, Henrie shared that both his wife, 34, and Gomez, 33, have chatted about wedding planning — with her even providing some advice. He and Cahill “definitely want to be there” to support Gomez on her big day, and he’s “really hoping we can make it” despite his busy schedule.
“Yeah, they talked about our wedding experience, and then they’ve talked about just the process a bit,” he says. “Because [there’s] so many different ways to go with a wedding these days, and so much that goes into it that [you’ve] got to know what you want.”

Gomez and Henrie previously starred alongside each other on Wizards of Waverly Placefrom 2007 to 2012. PEOPLE exclusively revealed the trailer for season 2 of Wizards Beyond Waverly Place on Sept. 4, showing Gomez (an executive producer on the series alongside Henrie) make a special appearance and reprise her role as Alex Russo.

Gomez and Blanco, who were first romantically linked in late 2023, got engaged in December 2024. Speaking with PEOPLE in September 2024, Henrie reflected on how the singer, actress and makeup mogul has evolved over the years he’s known her.
“She’s continued to get more and more mature. She’s really settling into herself and her own and really owning her life,” he said, adding that it’s “been wonderful to see her continue to grow into a beautiful woman.”
