David Corenswet received a gnarly-sounding bruise while filming one of his Superman fight scenes.
During Corenswet and his costar Nicholas Hoult’s recent video interview with Vanity Fair, the Twisters actor recalled bruising his “right testicle” while strapped into a harness for a high-flying sequence in the blockbuster.
“My right testicle. It could’ve been my left,” Corenswet, 32, said, while connected to a polygraph for Vanity Fair’s lie detector test-style interview. “I’m pretty sure it was my right.”
“There is footage from filming, where — have you seen it? Of me getting pulled through the air,” Corenswet told Hoult, 35. “It’s this wonderful epic moment, it’s in the trailer, the beginning of it, where I stand up and punch the glass out and I leap out the window and fly through the air, and on the first take of that, it’s this big epic punch and a leap through the air and then it’s ‘my testicle!’ “
“I couldn’t lie about that, it’s on film,” he added, after the lie detector confirmed that he was telling the truth.

“I want to ask you more questions about your testicles, but I don’t know where to go that’s appropriate,” Hoult joked in response.
Corenswet’s groin injury came while filming a sequence in which his Superman breaks out of a prison created by Hoult’s Lex Luthor to imprison Superman and Luthor’s other enemies in Metropolis. The movie itself follows Superman’s conflict with Luthor as the supervillain turns public opinion against the superhero after Superman inflames global tensions by singlehandedly preventing a war breaking out between two fictional nations.

Elsewhere in Hoult and Corenswet’s interview, Corenswet described the “most challenging” aspect of portraying Superman as “putting the costume on” and described wearing the skin-tight Superman suit as “quite sweaty.”
“I don’t know, how do you grade sweatiness? Medium-rare sweaty? Steamy,” he said. When Hoult asked whether Corenswet was able to “scratch an itch” while wearing the costume, he answered, “Depends where the itch was.”
Corenswet and Hoult costar in the new movie with Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, as well as Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Milly Alcock as Supergirl, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern, Edi Gathegi as Mr. Terrific and more.
Superman is in theaters now.
