David Beckham’s look for his knighthood ceremony paid tribute to his wife, Victoria Beckham.
On Tuesday, Nov. 4, the former soccer star, 50, was knighted by King Charles in an investiture ceremony at Windsor Castle for his “services to sport and charity.”
For the occasion, David wore the first-ever tailored menswear piece from Victoria’s eponymous fashion label. The charcoal-gray three-piece custom morning suit was crafted from a British wool mohair blend featuring a sharply tailored lapel.
Victoria, 51, opted for a custom navy version of her brand’s Bela dress featuring an elongated asymmetric hem.
The former Manchester United star will now be known as Sir David Beckham, and Victoria will be referred to as Lady Beckham. In addition to his wife, David was joined by his parents, Ted Beckham and Sandra West.
The honor comes more than two decades after he was appointed an officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 2003. He was put forward to receive a knighthood over 10 years ago, with a nomination in 2011, according to The Guardian.

In June, it was confirmed that David would be receiving the honor. Victoria shared her pride in a gushing social media post, writing: “You’ve always been my knight in shining armour, but now it’s official. Sir David Beckham!! What an honour, I couldn’t be prouder of you.”
Speaking with The Guardian, David revealed that he chatted with King Charles about fashion during his knighthood ceremony.
“He was quite impressed with my suit. He’s kind of the most elegantly dressed man that I know, so he inspired quite a few of my looks over the years, and he definitely inspired this look,” David told the outlet.
“It was something that my wife made me,” he said of the bespoke Victoria Beckham suit. “I looked at old pictures of him when he was quite young in morning suits and I was like, okay, that’s what I want to wear, so I gave it to my wife and she did it.”

In her new three-part Netflix docuseries, Victoria Beckham, the fashion designer and former Spice Girl opened up about a “dark” time in her business after David put forward money to help keep her afloat.
“I almost lost everything, and that was a dark, dark time. I used to cry before I went to work every day because I felt like a firefighter. We were 10s of millions in the red,” she revealed.
The designer continued, “Yes I’m going home to my husband, but I’m going home to my business partner as well. And so I would talk to him about it. I had to. He was invested. And I hated it. I absolutely hated it.”
David explained that his conversations with Victoria about the business failing “broke” his heart because she’s a “proud woman.” He also noted that Victoria was making more money than him when they met, which made it even more difficult to tell her that he could no longer invest.
“She was a lot richer than me. She actually bought our first house in Hertfordshire known as Beckingham Palace,” he said. “So for her to have to come to me and say, ‘Can I have some — we need some more money. The business needs more money,’ that was hard for both of us because I didn’t have the money to keep doing this and eventually I was like, ‘This cannot continue’.”
Victoria then sought out David Belhassen as a business partner to save the company. Belhassan initially turned down the offer but later reconsidered because his wife loved the brand.
