Dave Grohl is honoring his late friend and Foo Fighters bandmate Taylor Hawkins.
On Wednesday, July 2, the two-time Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee paid tribute to the late drummer who died at 50 in March 2022 on the 30th anniversary of Foo Fighters’ self-titled debut album.
In a note to fans shared on the Foo Fighters’ website, Grohl, 56, waxed poetic about the making of the rockers’ 1995 LP and reflected on the rollercoaster ride of their journey.

“Over the years, we’ve had moments of unbridled joy, and moments of devastating heartbreak,” he wrote. “Moments of beautiful victory, and moments of painful defeat.”
Grohl continued: “We have mended broken bones and broken hearts. But we have followed this road together, with each other, for each other, no matter what. Because in life, you just can’t go it alone.”
Grohl also shared his gratitude for former Foo Fighters’ members William Goldsmith, Franz Stahl and Josh Freese.
“This story would be incomplete, so we extend our heartfelt gratitude for the time, music, and memories that we shared with each of them over the years. Thank you, gentlemen,” he wrote.
Grohl then shared a special tribute to Hawkins.
“And… Taylor. Your name is spoken every day, sometimes with tears, sometimes with a smile, but you are still in everything we do, everywhere we go, forever,” he wrote.

Grohl continued: “The enormity of your beautiful soul is only rivaled by the infinite longing we feel in your absence. We all miss you beyond words. Foo Fighters will forever include Taylor Hawkins in every note that we play, until we do finally reach our destination.”
In addition to the note, the rock group also shared an emotional new single about perseverance called “Today’s Song,” which is the first taste of new music from the band since their 2023 album But Here We Are.
“Two sides to a river / Too troubled to cross / It might take you under / Today’s song / We’ll drown in the middle / Which side are you on? / One way or another / Today’s song, ” Grohl belts over raucous guitar riffs.
