NEED TO KNOW
Cynthia Erivo hasn’t worn much green for the Wicked: For Good press tour — but the actress is assuring fans it’s not forever.
Erivo, who stars as Elphaba in the two-film Wicked series, opted for a method-dressing approach while promoting the first film, often translating her character’s green hue through her outfits. Yet, this time around, notably, Erivo hasn’t been seen wearing any green at all.
During an appearance on Today, Erivo shared that shifting away from green was a conscious, symbolic decision — but, she said, fans haven’t seen the last of her Elphaba-inspired looks.

“I haven’t retired it completely, I just haven’t worn it as much this time around, because I don’t know, we wanted an evolution for her [Elphaba],” Erivo said. “We wore [green] a couple times through the [first] tour. This time we didn’t wear it at all.”
“This isn’t the last time you’ll see green on me,” Erivo added. “It’s actually one of my favorite colors, but it wasn’t right for this time around.”
Some of Erivo’s green looks for Wicked included her bright green vinyl dress by Louis Vuitton, accentuated by a dramatic fringed silk stole that trailed behind her; her forest green corseted dress and matching hat during her an Ariana Grande’s viral interview with Out.com; and her custom Louis Vuitton strapless gown in emerald green with intricate beading and a bubble hem at the 2024 Academy Gala.

“Everything was really thought out, and that’s the way we always are,” Erivo said of her style team. “We’re very picky, selective about what we put on and what we’re wearing, and the story we’re telling.”
“And more than anything we try and have a really good time doing it,” Erivo added. “If it doesn’t feel good to wear, we’re not wearing it. And if I love it and it feels good, then I’ll be wearing it. And it can be as avant-garde or as classic as it wants to be, as long as we know what story we’re telling, and it feels good to tell that story, then I’ll be in it. We have a good time. And hopefully, we’ll be having a good time this time round as well.”
