Colman Domingo responded to criticism surrounding his appearance in Sabrina Carpenter’s music video for “Tears.”
On Saturday, Aug. 30, the Sing Sing actor replied to a user on X who commented on his appearance in the visual, which is inspired by the 1975 cult-classic The Rocky Horror Picture Show and features him in drag.

“Hollywood ain’t s—. Colman Domingo is a solid actor. He’s gay as well so I figured he’d be highly backed. But nope!” the commenter began.
They continued: “Guess he was too manly even for a gay man. Had to put him in drag in Sabrina carpenter’s video huh? B——-!”
Domingo, 55, replied to the user on X, telling them to “enjoy the video.”
“It’s a character. Like all the characters I play. Calm down brother. Enjoy the video and the fun that it possesses. Dance it out! It ain’t that deep. ‘We are born naked and everything else is drag’ Suits, t shirts, dresses. All drag,” he wrote.
In the video, which was released on Friday, Aug. 29 alongside her seventh studio album, Man’s Best Friend, the “Espresso” hitmaker, 26, emerges from a car crash that seemingly killed the man she was riding with and finds a seemingly abandoned home in the middle of nowhere.
When she steps inside, she finds a sexy, hedonistic affair, where Domingo appears in drag.
In the video, Domingo plays a Dr. Frank-N-Furter-inspired character who transforms Carpenter into a flashier version of herself in ruffled lingerie. Eventually, she learns how to dance and goes out with her drag mother as she yearns for a man who treats her well.
“I get wet at the thought of you/ Being a responsible guy,” she sings on the chorus.
Carpenter, however, is forced to leave from the hedonistic house as she sees her presumed dead lover approaching the house.
“Wait, no, you died earlier, I thought? It’s a thing, someone has to die every video,” she says as she tosses a stiletto into his chest. “I’m sorry. We’ll always remember you, though.”
