The actor, who played Rip Wheeler in the Western series from 2018 to 2024, will reprise the role in a new spinoff series also starring Kelly Reilly
Cole Hauser has had some “strange” encounters with Yellowstone fans.
The actor, 50, revealed to Page Six that there has indeed been a few instances of unexpected behavior when asked if he’s had any “wild fan encounters.”
“I’ve had some old women grab my ass,” Hauser said with a laugh in an interview published on Sunday, Aug. 31. “It’s been a little bit strange but for the most part, everyone’s been very respectful.”
“But I think when the older ladies get a few drinks in them, they get a little aggressive,” he added.

Hauser played Rip Wheeler in the western drama from 2018 to 2024.
The actor will be reprising his role as the ranch hand in the new spinoff series also starring Kelly Reilly (Beth Dutton), PEOPLE confirmed last month.
Finn Little will return to play the pair’s adopted son Carter in the series — tentatively titled The Dutton Ranch — as Annette Bening also joined the cast.
“Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler are grateful for the peace they sought, fought, and nearly died for with their 7,000-acre Dutton Ranch,” an official logline for the series notes. “With tough times and stiff competition, Beth and Rip do what they must to survive, all while ensuring Carter becomes the man he’s supposed to be.”
Hauser explained the impact of the characters’ romance, detailing the importance of the “love that they have for each other.”
“The amount of just loyalty, the honor, the friendship they have on camera — and I have that with Kelly, as well,” he told Page Six.
“She’s an amazing woman, more importantly than a great actress, and we’ve just had a blast playing these two characters and really pushing the envelope as far as creativity together,” he added. “So, I’m just proud of that relationship with her.”
Hauser, who has been married to Cynthia Daniel since 2006 and shares three children with her, has previously opened up about his character’s impact in the real world.
When asked by The Hollywood Reporter about his character’s status as a “sex symbol” and if he had any “wild” fan encounters, he explained he once was at South Point, a “notorious cowboy hotel in Las Vegas,” when a woman showed him a tattoo she got of Rip.
“I thought it was fake,” he recalled. “She said, ‘No, it’s real. I just got it done.’ That’s crazy. That’s a crazy moment that someone would take the character and put it on her body, or that people would name their children after Rip.”
“It’s just another acknowledgement of what Taylor [Sheridan] started and our collaboration together, and the work that I’ve done with Kevin Costner and Kelly and Luke [Grimes], Wes [Bentley, the Yellowstone main cast],” he continued.
“It’s been a tremendous ride, and I look forward to hopefully more years with Kelly, seeing what we can create for the audience that is hopefully as good or better,” Hauser added.
