NEED TO KNOW
It’s the end of an era for Chrishell Stause.
The reality star, 44, revealed she’s officially leaving Selling Sunset in a new interview with Bustle published on Friday, Nov. 7. The news comes after Stause’s appearance on the Nov. 5 season 9 reunion, during which she had a number of heated interactions with her costars.
“I’ve vacillated back and forth with this decision in the past. I have to be honest — having come from nothing, it’s really hard to turn something like this down,” says Stause, who has been a series regular on the Netflix real estate drama since it first premiered in 2019.
“I’ve gotten to a place where I don’t need the show financially,” she added. “I’m lucky to have other forms of employment, because it’s no longer good for my mental health.”

While Selling Sunset has not yet been renewed for a 10th season, Stause says she has no ill will towards the show if it continues, despite the number of conflicts she was involved in with her fellow cast members throughout season 9.
“If they do continue, I wish them the best,” Stause says of the show as a whole. “If they do do another one, by then, I may not watch it. I don’t know. But I have no ill will toward the show. The show has given me so many opportunities, and I don’t want to be bitter about it, even though I’m leaving not in the way that I would’ve loved.”
Stause took to social media to address her departure in a statement shared to her Instagram Stories on Nov. 7.
“Although the season ended on a bit of a sour note, I will truly always be SO grateful to this show. It introduced me to you guys and l am deeply thankful for your support,” she wrote alongside a photo from her Bustle feature. “There were lots of fun memories I am going to focus on from here on out and you will see me again so it’s not goodbye. Just goodbye for now.”
It is unclear whether Stause is leaving the Oppenheim Group in addition to the show. PEOPLE has reached out to a representative for Stause for comment.

Stause’s announcement comes after she hinted at her possible departure in an interview with Variety published on Friday, Oct. 31.
She noted that while she still “liked this season,” she was both ready and “excited to move on from this chapter.”
“The reunion was so brutal. In that moment, I realized I will be done here going forward,” she said, before adding, “I wish everyone the best, but this isn’t the place for me. It felt a little bit like a dog pile.”

Stause was front and center in a number of dramatic scenes throughout season 9, which may have contributed to her decision to officially put the show behind her.
First, she got into a heated argument with Nicole Young during a “Girlsgiving” dinner, after she brought up the claim that Young did drugs again. The accusation has been a repeated point of contention between the two ever since Young joined the show in season 6.
It appeared to be a breaking point for Young, who clapped back by bringing Stause’s late parents into the conversation: “Honey, you’re confusing me with your parents, okay? You seem to be obsessed with drugs.”

Stause also butted heads with her former best friend Emma Hernan over her relationship with her new boyfriend Blake Davis. During her interview with Variety, Stause said a lot of her issues with Hernan were “left out” of the show, but she felt from the start that Davis was bad news.
“When I met him, there were so many red flags that happened in one short meeting. Sometimes you meet someone and you may not like the way they dress, or they may rub you the wrong way because they’re a little awkward. I found real things to be dangerous with his personality,” Stause claimed.
She later addressed some of her specific issues with Hernan and Davis in the season 9 reunion, which resulted in a number of her costars coming to Hernan’s defense and claiming Stause wasn’t necessarily being a good friend.

Later in the season, Stause had a confrontation with the show’s newcomer, Sandra Vergara, after Vergara asked if she had done anything to upset Stause. The conversation escalated when Stause accused Vergara of keying her assistant’s car, which led to the new agent getting emotional and insisting she had never done anything like that before.

Despite all the drama, Stause told Bustle she’s looking forward to focusing on other projects, and potentially starting a family with her partner G Flip. Stause opened up about the process of going through IVF and how it was “really hard” while filming Selling Sunset.
“Now that I’m done, and after the reunion airs and the chatter dies down, I might give it one more chance,” she said “It’s a process and it’s expensive as well. And now I’m looking for a new job, so I need to be wise about this.”
