NEED TO KNOW
Carnie Wilson was hospitalized with complications from her lap-band removal surgery, she shared in an Instagram update on Thursday, Sept. 25.
“OK, the official update. My daughter’s getting a prescription for me right now, but I am out of the hospital,” Wilson, 57, shared in a video filmed in her car.
A lap-band is a silicone band placed around the stomach, which reduces the capacity of your stomach and causes you to eat less, Cleveland Clinic explains. Wilson had her lap-band implanted in 2012.

Although the removal “was a great success,” the Wilson Phillips singer shared that she struggled with complications: “I had some swelling in the legs that kept getting worse. Needed to go back into the hospital because of high blood pressure. It was very scary, but after a couple of days there, we changed the meds. And the swelling has gone down and, like, almost gone.”
It was Wilson’s first health update since she shared on Tuesday, Sept. 16, that she was getting the lap-band removed, and as she explained, “I am finally over this hump, recovering from my lap-band surgery, lap-band removal.”
Along with the swelling and high blood pressure, Wilson says recovery was “intense.”
Wilson, whose father, Beach Boys co-founder Brian Wison died this year, added, “they found an ulcer in there. It doesn’t surprise me with all the stress I’ve had this year.”
She also added that “they actually found an obstruction with food inside the lap band.” As Cleveland Clinic explains that’s when food gets “stuck in the outlet between your stomach pouch (stomach above the band) and lower stomach, causing a blockage.” The news, she said, “makes me want to barf, but anyway, I’m so grateful right now and so lucky.”
She went on to thank her doctors and “incredible” nurses, explaining, “I am just so, so lucky to have gotten through this.”
“It really put a new perspective on some health things for me,” said WIlson, who has been open about her ongoing struggle with weight and the unfair focus on her body during her music career. “So I’m recovering. It’s going great, and I love you guys and I appreciate if anybody had said any prayers or anything, so thank you and … on the mend!”
