NEED TO KNOW
Britney Spears is speaking out against her ex-husband Kevin Federline after his recent public declaration that he’s concerned for the pop star.
In Federline’s forthcoming memoir You Thought You Knew, he shared that he fears the pop star’s “situation” is “racing toward something irreversible.”
On Wednesday, Oct. 15, the singer responded with a lengthy post on X, saying she’s “had enough” of Federline, 47, “constantly gaslighting” her. Spears also defended her relationship with her sons Sean Preston, 20, and Jayden James, 19, whom she and Federline welcomed during their three-year marriage from 2004-2007.
“I have always pleaded and screamed to have a life with my boys,” Spears, 43, wrote. “Relationships with teenage boys is complex. I have felt demoralized by this situation and have always asked and almost begged for them to be a part of my life.”
Spears went on to say of Sean and Jayden, “Sadly, they have always witnessed the lack of respect shown by own father for me. They need to take responsibility for themselves. With one son only seeing me for 45 min in the past 5 years and the other with only 4 visits in the past 5 years. I have pride too. From now on I will let them know when I am available.”

The “Gimme More” singer took direct aim at Federline’s forthcoming memoir, saying, “Trust me, those white lies in that book, they are going straight to the bank and I am the only one who genuinely gets hurt here.”
Spears added, “I will always love them and if you really know me, you won’t pay attention to the tabloids of my mental health and drinking. I am actually a pretty intelligent woman who has been trying to live a sacred and private life the past 5 years. I speak on this because I have had enough and any real woman would do the same.”
Her X post comes a day after a representative for Spears exclusively told PEOPLE that, “Once again he and others are profiting off her and sadly it comes after child support has ended with Kevin.”
“All she cares about are her kids, Sean Preston and Jayden James and their well-being during this sensationalism. She detailed her journey in her memoir [The Woman in Me].”

Prior to Federline’s claims, in 2023, Spears told PEOPLE, while promoting her memoir, that “Being a mom was my dream come true.”
Federline alleged in his book that Preston and Jayden became fearful of visiting Spears’ home as teenagers. He claimed, “They would awaken sometimes at night to find her standing silently in the doorway, watching them sleep — ’Oh, you’re awake?’ — with a knife in her hand. Then she’d turn around and pad off without explanation.”
Additionally, in his book, Federline wrote that the “Free Britney” movement “started from a good place” but was ultimately harmful. Notably, the “Free Britney” movement included fans campaigning to have the star freed from her conservatorship under her father, Jamie Spears.
“All those people who put so much effort into that should now put the same energy into the ‘Save Britney’ movement,” he writes, in an excerpt of his upcoming memoir shared by The New York Times. “Because this is no longer about freedom. It’s about survival… Now, more than ever, [our children] need your support. I’ve been their buffer for years, but now it’s bigger than me. It’s time to sound the alarm.”
Although Federline does not share specific examples causing worries, he is not the only figure in her life sharing concerns. Her fans have expressed concern in recent months amid a series of erratic social media videos, many of which feature Spears nude and dancing.
