NEED TO KNOW
Brett Young is marking a new era in his career and his personal life.
The 44-year-old country singer released his new album 2.0 last week and shared some insight into the album’s title during an appearance on the Today show on Wednesday, June 25.
“It’s a new chapter in my life,” he explained. “I’ve jumped really deep into health and wellness and trying to hang around longer for my family. It’s kind of like Brett Young 2.0 at the same time.”
Young is dad to daughters Presley, 5, and Rowan, nearly 4, whom he shares with wife Taylor Mills Young.

“It started with alcohol,” the “In Case You Didn’t Know’ artist shared of his transformation. “We cut that out at the beginning of last year. Mornings with babies were not feeling great. It wasn’t serving me, my life or my career, so we cut that out.”
He added: “And then I just started thinking, ‘Well, what else can we do to start hanging around longer for the kiddos?’ There’s a lot of information available to us. I went down that rabbit hole and I’ve just been chasing it ever since.”

Young also opened up about the album title in a recent Instagram video, saying, “I spent the last little over a year and a half kind of reinventing myself, redefining what I’m trying to accomplish not only with my career but with my life, prioritizing family while also being on the road. It’s just kind of a new chapter. And I feel like not just a better version of myself right now, but the best version of myself.”

Young’s experience as a father has also impacted his music.
“I’ve always been hell-bent on being in the moment with everything that I write about, but I had a realization in the middle of writing the last record that being married and starting a family kind of changes what you can and can’t do in that world,” Young shared in a recent exclusive interview with PEOPLE.

And one song on 2.0 is dedicated to his youngest daughter Rowan — “Full House.”
“Me and my wife [Taylor Mills Young] were sure that we wanted four kids, but then we had this really overwhelming emotional experience bringing Rowan home from the hospital,” he shared. “Suddenly, we felt like our family was full with two children. Rowan’s existence in our life was so powerful that it kind of changed our plan for us as a family and completed us.”
Young feels lucky that his family has found this inner peace with their two children.
“There’s a lot of people that aren’t lucky enough to have reached that point in their life where they feel, ‘This is our family unit, this is the plan and moving forward we protect this and this is what we take care of,'” he explained. “I think to some people that can seem like it comes with this negative side where there’s now nothing new to look forward to.”
But for Young it’s different.
“There are no more unknowns,” he said. “There are no more new variables. This is what it is.”
