With season 2 of Landman right around the corner, the star-studded cast kicked off the excitement with a lively carpet event in New York City.
Billy Bob Thornton, who plays tough oil-boss Tommy Norris and also serves as an executive producer on the show, spoke to PEOPLE about what it’s been like working with costar and longtime friend Demi Moore.
“I love that girl. She’s beautiful and amazing and so talented,” the 70-year-old actor says. “And I’m blessed to be with all these people in this show, frankly.”

While Thornton and Moore, 63, play high-stakes business partners navigating the cutthroat business world, their real-life friendship stretches back over three decades to when they first worked together on the set of 1993’s Indecent Proposal.
Funny enough, at an AFYC event in June 2025, Thornton revealed that Moore didn’t remember working with him on the Adrian Lyne-directed film.
Over the years, though, their bond grew naturally, strengthened in part by Thornton’s collaborations with her then-husband, Bruce Willis, 70.
“Demi and I have known each other for a long time, actually for 35 years,” he tells PEOPLE. “But I got to know her very well over the three movies I did with Bruce, her ex-husband, because she used to bring the kids out to the set and everything, and they knew my kids when they were little and everything.”
Thornton and Willis’ first film together was Armageddon in 1998. The duo has also starred in Bandits (2001) and The Astronaut Farmer (2006).
Willis and Moore, who split in 1998, share daughters Rumer, 37, Scout, 34, and Tallulah, 31. Thornton, meanwhile, is a dad to four children: daughters Amanda, 46, and Bella, 21, and sons William, 32, and Harry, 31.

Working with The Substance actress, however, has been especially meaningful for Thornton.
“Over the years, you just become friends, and you know, to be able to see her on a daily basis has been wonderful,” he admits, adding that they share a unique connection both on and off the screen.
“Anytime anything weird happens on the set or something breaks or whatever…we just look at each other and it’s like…we have kind of an unspoken language,” he explains. “We could just give each other a look, and we know what it means.”

Taylor Sheridan’s Landman made a huge splash when it debuted on Paramount+ in November 2024, marking the platform’s most-watched premiere in the past two years.
The series is set in the heart of West Texas, where ambition, wealth and risk collide in the booming oil towns.
The show returns for its second season on Sunday, Nov. 16, with fans following Thornton’s character, Norris, as mounting pressures from M‑Tex Oil, Miller, and his own family push him to the edge.
