NEED TO KNOW
Bill Belichick and the University of North Carolina’s docuseries with Hulu fell through because of concerns the series would prioritize the head coach’s “home life” and relationship with Jordon Hudson over the football program, a source exclusively tells PEOPLE.
“Jordon, Bill and UNC all agreed that Hulu’s vision of the project was not in alignment with Hulu’s,” the source says. Belichick, 73, “was enthusiastic to give unprecedented access to the program; it’s too bad Hulu wanted to dive deep into his home life,” the source adds.
The project ultimately fell through when “Jordon and Bill refused to sign appearance releases,” says the insider. According to documents reviewed by PEOPLE, the temporary title of the docuseries was the ‘Untitled Bill and Jordon Project.”
For now, Belichick, 73, is “laser-focused on the football team,” according to the source, and while he and Hudson, 24, are still open to releasing a docuseries, “the potential future of the project has been put on the back burner.”

PEOPLE has contacted representatives for Belichick, Hudson, the University of North Carolina and Hulu, but did not immediately hear back.
Amid reports that the series was no longer in the works with Hulu, a source told PEOPLE that the streaming service “wanted ‘Keeping Up with the Belichicks’, but that was never for sale.”
Belichick initially announced Hulu would be documenting his debut season at UNC during a team meeting in August, and shared video of the moment on Instagram.
“There’s obviously a lot of interest in it and it’ll stream on Hulu later this fall,” he said at the time, explaining that the docuseries would “feature the players working hard” and would be “about the players improving and getting better through their hard work.”

The Tar Heels coach also said the project would highlight “a program starting from where it started from several months ago to wherever it’s gonna go during the course of the season, which, of course, will be determined on the field.”
“It’ll show our commitment to winning, it’ll show our commitment to the team, and that’s our priority,” Belichick said.
