Barack and Michelle Obama are celebrating their daughter Malia on the Fourth of July!
The former first couple shared heartfelt tributes on Instagram to their eldest daughter, who turned 27 on Friday, July 4.
Both the former president and former first lady shared the same photo showing an outline of the two of them alongside Malia watching fireworks. The photo dates back to the family enjoying fireworks from the roof of the White House on July 4, 2014.
“Happy birthday to my darling, Malia! You’ve grown into such a smart, strong, and beautiful young woman, and I’m so proud of the way you show up in the world. Keep shining bright, my love. 🌟🥳🎉,” Michelle captioned her post.

As for Barack, he alluded to the holiday writing: “Happy birthday, Malia! Thanks for always lighting up our world. So proud of you.”
This comes one month after the family celebrated their youngest daughter, Sasha’s 24th birthday on June 10. To honor her, the couple shared an updated family picture showing the two of them with their daughters, who were all grown up.
In the snap, the former president is dressed casually, in a white polo and gray slacks, while his wife and daughters are in sundresses and skirts. The family appeared to be outdoors, as they posed in front of a tree.
“Happy birthday, Sasha! Watching you grow into the incredible woman you are has been a true gift. I’ll always be proud of you and will always be here for you,” Barack, 63, captioned the post. Meanwhile, Michelle wrote, “Happy birthday to my sweet girl, Sasha! Can’t believe how quickly time has flown. I’m so proud of the woman you’ve become. Love you always!”
Since leaving the White House, the two former first daughters, Malia and Sasha, have kept their lives private. Sasha has remained out of the spotlight and rarely appears at events or in photographs.
However, Malia has stepped into the spotlight from time to time thanks to her budding filmmaking career. Though she dropped her last name, “Obama,” and has been using her middle name, “Ann,” in credits instead.

Michelle shared her thoughts on the decision on Kate and Oliver Hudson’s podcast Sibling Revelry last month, saying that she believed it was in line with how her daughter wants to be perceived.
“We were like, they’re still going to know it’s you, Malia,” Michelle said. “But we respected the fact that she’s trying to make her way.”
She further explained, “I mean, it is very important for my kids to feel like they’ve earned what they are getting in the world, and they don’t want people to assume that they don’t work hard, that they’re just naturally, just handed things. They’re very sensitive to that — they want to be their own people.”
