Angelina Jolie is getting back into action-thriller mode.
Among the actress-filmmaker’s next projects will be a thriller set in the world of spies from her Mr. and Mrs. Smith director Doug Liman, per The Hollywood Reporter.
Jolie, 50, starred with ex-husband Brad Pitt in the 2005 comedic thriller about a husband-and-wife duo who realize they’re both secretly spies.
The upcoming movie will be written by F. Scott Frazier and produced by Joe Roth and Jeff Kirschenbaum of RK Films, who also have a history with Jolie as producers of her Maleficent movies. According to THR, it’s described as Training Day set in the world of spycraft, with Jolie as a rogue master spy.

Since 2019’s Maleficent 2, Jolie has extended her action movie career with the 2021 Marvel Cinematic Universe installment Eternals, and reappeared on the big screen in 2024’s Maria Callas biopic Maria. Earlier this year, she directed Salma Hayek and Demián Bichir in war drama Without Blood.
The Oscar winner will next star in Alice Winocour’s French film Couture, to premiere next month at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival. In 2023, it was announced that Jolie will costar with Halle Berry for the first time, in the action-packed Maude v Maude.

Liman, 60, is also teaming up with action stars Tom Cruise and Ana de Armas for the upcoming film Deeper, a supernatural ocean thriller that begins filming this month. Liman and Cruise, who worked together on 2014’s Edge of Tomorrow and 2017’s American Made, are also collaborating on a project with Mission: Impossible director Christopher McQuarrie.
