NEED TO KNOW
Andy Garcia is remembering Diane Keaton.
The actor, 69, posted an emotional tribute for his longtime friend and frequent collaborator — with whom he starred in The Godfather Part III, as well as Book Club and its 2023 sequel, Book Club: The Next Chapter — following her death at age 79 on Oct. 11.
“The magical Diane Keaton has passed,” Garcia wrote on Instagram. “I share with you these pictures I took of her in Sicily during Godfather III. Diane you will be deeply missed, but your sublime light will shine forever.”
In the images, Keaton could be seen smiling widely while outdoors.

Back in April 2018, Garcia said working with Keaton once more had been an item on his “bucket list” ahead of playing her onscreen husband in Book Club.
“I wanted to share that moment with her because she’s such an extraordinary actress,” he told The Upcoming at the time, ahead of the romantic comedy’s release. “She’s so present and there’s a spontaneity to her that we’ve all always been very attracted to. As an actor, I want to be a part of that.”
Once their time on set came to a close, Garcia said working alongside Keaton was “everything I expected.”
“There was an ability to feel comfortable and to play,” he continued of acting alongside the actress. “With Diane, you can always play and you’re never gonna throw her.”
Along with Garcia, more of Keaton’s Book Club costars paid tribute to the late actress — including Jane Fonda, Candice Bergen and Mary Steenburgen.

Fonda, 87, shared a tribute to Keaton on Instagram, writing, “It’s hard to believe…or accept…that Diane has passed. She was always a spark of life and light, constantly giggling at her own foibles, being limitlessly creative… in her acting, her wardrobe, her books, her friends, her homes, her library, her worldview.”
She added: “Unique is what she was. And, though she didn’t know it or wouldn’t admit it, man she was a fine actress!”

For her part, Bergen, 79, shared a statement expressing her grief. “This is a huge loss, both personally and for all of us. Diane was a true artist – tremendously gifted and uniquely talented in so many disciplines, yet also modest and wonderfully eccentric. I will miss her terribly.”
“Diane was magic. There was no one, nor will there ever be, anyone like her,” Steenburgen, 72, said in her own statement. “I loved her and felt blessed to be her friend. My love to her family. What a wonder she was!!!”
