Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes are on the same wavelength about what’s been keeping their relationship happy and healthy.
Speaking with PEOPLE in an exclusive conversation at iHeartRadio’s Jingle Ball 2025 on Dec. 12, the former Good Morning America anchors — who got engaged in September before announcing the news about a month later — revealed the secret to their relationship.
“Friendship, the foundation of friendship, period, point blank,” Holmes, 48, said as Robach, 52, quipped, “Without a doubt.”
Holmes continued, “If you got a friend you love and you respect … you end up in a relationship that’s still the foundation of friendship.”

Elaborating on their friendship, Robach added, “Yes, if you can laugh with someone, you can live a long time with someone. You can get through almost anything if you can laugh together.”
Her partner cheekily responded, “he he,” to mimic laughter.
The red carpet event turned into a family night out.
The couple posed alongside Holmes’ daughter Sabine, 12, whom he shares with ex-wife Marilee Fiebig, as well as Robach’s daughters Annalise, 19, and Ava, 22, whom she shares with ex-husband Andrew Shue.

For the holiday season, Holmes said they plan to spend it “in New York with our girls” followed by “getting out of town for a little tropical getaway.”
“We get to do our perfect Christmas this year,” he emphasized.
Robach added, “It’s T.J. and his ladies.”
