All About the ‘Red, White & Royal Blue’ Sequel

Get ready to RSVP to the wedding of the century!

On Oct. 15, Amazon MGM Studios announced the title of the upcoming Red, White & Royal Blue sequel: Red, White & Royal Wedding.

The upcoming movie will reunite stars Nicholas Galitzine and Taylor Zakhar Perez who captured fans’ hearts with their onscreen romance. It follows the love story of Prince Henry (Galitzine), a British royal who is forced to hide his sexuality, and Alex Claremont-Diaz (Perez), the outgoing son of the U.S. president, who initially share a rivalry that turns into a secret romantic relationship.

Based on Casey McQuiston’s bestselling 2019 novel of the same name, the film adaptation premiered in August 2023.

In addition to the new title, Amazon MGM Studios also announced that Jamie Babbit will be directing the sequel, from a script by Gemma Burgess, Matthew López and McQuiston.

“We couldn’t be more excited to continue that journey with Jamie Babbit at the helm — her sharp comedic sensibility and heartfelt storytelling make her the perfect director to build on the magic of the first film, in which Matthew López beautifully brought to life from Casey McQuiston’s beloved book,” Julie Rapaport, Amazon MGM Studios’ Head of Film, Production and Development, said in a statement.

“Together with Jamie, Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Matthew, Casey, Jennifer Salke, Gemma Burgess, and of course Nicholas Galitzine and Taylor Zakhar Perez, we can’t wait to bring fans an unforgettable new chapter in their love story,” she added.

So, with a new title and a new director, here’s everything to know about Red, White & Royal Wedding.

When will Red, White & Royal Wedding be released? 

The film doesn’t currently have a release date. However, the first film is currently available to stream on Prime Video.

What is Red, White & Royal Wedding about?

At the moment, plot details haven’t been announced. However, it’s likely the follow-up film will continue to show the evolution of Prince Henry and Alex’s love story. 

After a rocky romance in the spotlight, the first film ends with the two embracing their newfound freedom as a couple as they visit Alex’s childhood home. The film ends with them telling each other, “We won,” referring both to their happily ever after and Alex’s mom getting re-elected as president. 

Who is in the cast of Red, White & Royal Wedding? 

Galitzine and Zakhar Perez are reprising their roles as Prince Henry and Alex Claremont-Diaz, respectively. 

Other casting news hasn’t been announced, though it’s possible Clifton Collins Jr., Sarah Shahi, Rachel Hilson and Uma Thurman will also return.

In a July 2025 Letterboxd interview, when asked about reprising her role of President Ellen Claremont in a Red, White & Royal Blue sequel, Thurman said, “When it’s ready, I will do it.”

Who is directing Red, White & Royal Wedding?

But I’m a Cheerleader and longtime TV director Jamie Babbit is coming aboard to helm Red, White & Royal Wedding.

Babbit has directed episodes of various TV series over the years, including everything from Gilmore Girls and Russian Doll to Silicon Valley, Only Murders in the Building and many more.

“After directing But I’m a Cheerleader in my 20s, I’m thrilled to be back in the queer love universe of Red, White & Royal Wedding,” Babbit said in a statement. “We all need this kind of optimism, fantasy, and gay joy. I’m thrilled to work with this brilliant team.”

Matthew López, who directed the first film, co-wrote the sequel’s screenplay with Gemma Burgess and Casey McQuiston.

“I’m excited we get to continue telling Alex and Henry’s story with Red, White & Royal Wedding. It’s been a blast to dream up the next chapter of their story as a producer and co-writer and I’m delighted to be passing the directing baton to Jamie, whose vision and sense of humor will be a perfect match for our film,” López said in a statement.

Additionally, Berlanti Schechter Films’ Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter will return to produce the film, joined by the banner’s Michael McGrath as well as López, per an official press release. McQuiston is also on board to executive produce.

Is there a poster for Red, White & Royal Wedding?

Amazon released teaser art for the sequel when it was originally announced. The image shows a chunk of white cake (nodding back to a key plot point in the first film) with the United Kingdom and United States flags on each side as a No. 2 candle sits in the middle. Alongside the image, the text reads: “Fancy another slice?”

Where will Red, White & Royal Wedding be available to stream?

The first film is available to stream on Prime Video, but it has not been announced if Red, White & Royal Wedding will also go straight-to-streaming or if it will have a theatrical release.
