NEED TO KNOW
JoJo Siwa and Chris Hughes went from being costars to a couple!
The Dance Moms alum and the former Love Island UK star met while starring on season 24 of Celebrity Big Brother UK and developed a close friendship. When they began filming the show in April 2025, Siwa was identifying as a lesbian and was in a relationship with Kath Ebbs. Siwa and Ebbs announced their breakup shortly after the show wrapped later that month, but Siwa denied that her then-friendship with Hughes played a role in the split.
Since the show stopped filming, Hughes and Siwa became closer and shared several photos and videos of them spending time together. Although they initially maintained that they were just friends, that changed in June 2025 when Siwa confirmed they were dating.
“It’s not platonic anymore, and it’s been a beautiful development, a beautiful connection, and I’m absolutely head over heels for him and he’s the same way,” she told The Guardian on June 2.
From meeting on reality TV to developing a romantic relationship, here’s everything to know about JoJo Siwa and Chris Hughes’ relationship.

Siwa and Hughes were two of 13 contestants — including Chesney Hawkes, Angellica Bell and Jack P. Shepherd — to compete on season 24 of Celebrity Big Brother UK, which aired in April 2025.
As they filmed the hit series, Hughes and Siwa became close friends. They started developing a friendship after their fellow castmate Mickey Rourke made a homophobic comment against Siwa in front of Hughes. At the time, Rourke said that he was “going to vote the lesbian out real quick,” and Hughes told him that he could “not say that.” Siwa also stood up for herself and called him out for his “homophobic” remarks. Rourke was subsequently sent home for inappropriate behavior, and Siwa and Hughes began to bond over criticizing Rourke’s behavior.
Their friendship strengthened when Siwa confided in Hughes about her sexuality and her gender identity. “You have female, you have male. I’ve met a lot of females, love them, don’t feel like I’m them. [I’ve] met a lot of males, love them, definitely not them,” she told Hughes, while admitting her identity has been “confusing” to her over the years. Siwa later came out as queer and clarified that she no longer identifies as a lesbian.
After sharing her reflective thoughts, Siwa continued getting closer to Hughes, and they were seen spending one-on-one time together, cuddling and holding hands.
“Christopher, the love that I’ve gained for you in this building is insane,” Siwa told Hughes at their final dinner on the show. “You’re a one-of-a-kind gentleman, somebody who is so easy to love, so easy to laugh with. I really, really believe you are a vital part of my life that I didn’t know I was missing.”

Both Siwa and Hughes made it to the Celebrity Big Brother UK finale, with Hughes finishing in sixth place and Siwa in third.
Despite developing a close bond, both Siwa and Hughes maintained that they were “platonic” friends after leaving the show.
“He’s a gorgeous boy,” she said during a joint appearance with Hughes on This Morning on April 28. “Look, he’s a great guy. It is platonic, we have a lot of fun together. Life is life, and I don’t know any future of anything. But, I’m really grateful for our dynamic that we have in our bond that we have, and whatever life does, life will do.”
Hughes echoed Siwa’s sentiment and called their relationship “a soulmate friendship” that was his “favorite thing” he gained from the show.
“It’s not like the standard friendship that you have with your friends, but it’s, you know, it’s still a friendship,” he said. “Having someone in there to go through an experience like that … when you’re emotional, when you’re down, when you’re happy, that was beautiful.”

After leaving the show, both Siwa and Hughes maintained their friendship and each posted several photos together on social media.
In May, Siwa celebrated her 22nd birthday with Hughes and shared pictures of them sitting close together, playing card games and snuggling.
“This years birthday week was more magical than anything🤍🪄. Full of surprises, family time, performing, chilling, laughing, loving, smiling, and good meaningful cries. Absolutely beautiful, wouldn’t change a single thing🤍 a week I’ll remember for the rest of my life,” she captioned the pictures.
Later that same month, Hughes posted photos of himself and Siwa cuddling, hugging and her placing her head on his shoulder. He wrote under the post, “The previous 7 days have been the prettiest.. 😊💫🎂.”
Hughes later posted pictures on his Instagram Stories showing himself spending time with Siwa’s parents, Jessalynn and Tom. Ahead of confirming their relationship, Hughes posted a photo on his Snapchat of himself lying shirtless in bed while kissing Siwa on her forehead on June 1.

Two months after meeting on Celebrity Big Brother UK, Siwa confirmed that she and Hughes were in a relationship.
“It’s not platonic anymore, and it’s been a beautiful development, a beautiful connection, and I’m absolutely head over heels for him and he’s the same way,” she told The Guardian on June 2.
Siwa gushed that they have “a very genuine connection” and shut down speculation that they were “faking” anything for attention.

While confirming her romance with Hughes, Siwa also agreed that she’s the happiest she’s been in years.
“Ever since Big Brother, genuinely. Even my family is like, ‘What happened in there?’ ” she told The Guardian.
She added, “The happiness in my life just radiates off of me right now. Literally yesterday, I was massaging my cheeks; I’ve never [before] been in pain from smiling so much.”
Prior to confirming her relationship with Hughes, Siwa told PEOPLE that she was “happier than ever right now.”
“I’m in such a great place. I’m so, so happy,” she said during the Epic Universe Celestial Carpet Opening Celebration at Universal Orlando Resort in Florida on May 21. “I said to somebody the other day, ‘I don’t think humans are meant to feel this happy,’ and that somebody was like, ‘No. I think you are actually.’ It’s good happy.”
She reflected on her sexuality ahead of their relationship

Siwa, who came out as LGBTQ in 2021, addressed her sexuality ahead of her relationship with Hughes. During an April 22 episode of Celebrity Big Brother UK, Siwa sat down with RuPaul’s Drag Race UK alum Danny Beard for a candid conversation about her identity.
“I feel, like, so queer, do you know what I mean?” Siwa asked Beard. “I think that’s the thing. I’ve always told myself I’m a lesbian, and I think being here I’ve realized: ‘Oh, I’m not a lesbian, I’m queer.’ And I think that’s really cool.”
Siwa added that she’s “switching letters,” referring to the LGBTQ letters. “I’ve dropped the L and I’ve gone to the Q baby! That’s what I love about sexuality.”
Prior to filming the British reality TV show, Siwa was in a relationship with Australian actor and influencer Kath Ebbs, who identifies as non-binary. The former couple announced that they had broken up shortly after the show ended in late April.
Ebbs went on claim in a since-deleted TikTok video that Siwa broke up with them at a Celebrity Big Brother UK wrap party.
“I flew across the world to support and be there and hold that person in whatever they would be experiencing, leaving such a wild experience, and instead, I was dumped at the afterparty, with Chris [Hughes] in the next room,” Ebbs alleged. “I was told that there are confused feelings there … and that she had realized in the house that I wasn’t the person that [she] wanted to spend the foreseeable future with.”
However, Siwa said that there were “so many reasons” why they broke up and explained that she had doubts about their relationship ahead of starting the TV show. After the show ended, Siwa attended the wrap party and claimed that Ebbs “cussed [her] out,” she shared during an April 30 episode of The Viall Files podcast.
“There’s so many reasons why my breakup happened. Christopher is not one of them,” Siwa said. “I actually told this to Kath, like, ‘Maybe it would be easier if he was!’ But he is not one of them, so if you’re going to share the story, share the story … Don’t paint it out to look like I cheated on you with him because I did not … I would not, and I have not.”
