NEED TO KNOW
Yung Miami’s greatest joy is being a mom to her two kids.
The rapper welcomed son Jai in June 2013 with ex-boyfriend Jai Wiggins. In October 2019, she gave birth to her daughter, Summer, whom she shares with producer Southside.
Since becoming a mother of two, Yung Miami has left the City Girls and gone on to pursue a solo music career. But at the end of the day, the rapper — who rarely shares her kids on social media — says her children come first.
“I take my kids to school every single day,” she said during a May 2023 episode of The Jason Lee Show. “I’m a mom, like my daughter got swimming lessons with a swimming coach. My son got a tutor that come home. Like, I am a mom, a full-time mom.”
She continued, “Time is precious — so whenever I can spend time with my kids, I would want that.”

He’s named after his late father, Jai Wiggins, who died from gun violence in June 2020. Yung Miami announced his death on Instagram alongside a series of images of Jai with their son.
“Babies 1st words are DADA & that’s what you are a FATHER to Jai,” she wrote on her Instagram Stories, per XXL. “You & Jai is peanut butter & jelly always together.”
On an April 2025 episode of the Club Shay Shay podcast, Yung Miami opened up about how she had to explain Wiggins’ death to Jai, who was only 6 years old at the time.
“He didn’t really understand … when I had to explain it to him. He was like, ‘My dad is with God now?’ ” she recalled. “But now he understand. I think that he sit with his emotions and his thoughts.”
“His dad raised him. So he’s able to, like, know that his dad was in his life,” she added.
Now, Jai’s favorite hobby is “to sit in his room doing games,” she told The Jason Lee Show in May 2023.

Yung Miami welcomed her daughter Summer in October 2019. The rapper shares Summer with producer Southside, whom she dated for two years before their 2020 split, per iHeart Radio.
The rapper announced her pregnancy on Instagram in June 2019 while promoting the Point Blank Period Part 2 documentary. She gave birth to Summer later that year, she announced in a since-deleted Oct. 18, 2019, Instagram post, per Billboard.
In an XXL interview published in September 2022, Yung Miami said that she and Southside have learned to co-parent over the years.
“He’s real cool,” she said. “I’m not gonna lie, at first, it was kind of rocky, but, you know, we had to put our differences to the side and just understand that we got kids together. We can’t raise our kids in a bad environment because it really takes a toll on the kids.”
Yung Miami rarely shares her children on social media, since online fans have “too many opinions,” she said on the May 2025 Club Shay Shay episode.
“Why do I have to get on the internet and defend my child?” she added. “The internet are so negative that it’s people behind a computer saying anything. I can’t deal with that.”
Reflecting on her own childhood, Yung Miami said she wants Summer “raised totally different” from how she grew up.
“I don’t even want her to see the light of day like that. Like I just really want her to be like, level-headed, a school girl and just on a whole other wave,” she said on The Jason Lee Show. “I kinda was raised different, so I don’t wanna raise her up like how I was raised. You know I’m a city girl, ain’t nothing wrong with it, but I don’t want that for my daughter.”
Above all else, Yung Miami told PEOPLE that she’s focused on being a good role model “of a mother and a woman for my daughter.”
