Ugh, as if! Alicia Silverstone is reassuring critics that Peacock’s upcoming Clueless TV series will “honor” the 1995 classic rom-com Clueless.
The 48-year-old actress, who will reprise her star-making role as Cher Horowitz in the television reboot, recently gave an update on the project.
“Where we are at is that it’s in very early stages. I’m obviously excited. I never thought that that was something I would ever do because I wouldn’t wanna mess up this thing that we all love so much,” Silverstone told Entertainment Tonight. “So we will do our very best to honor the original movie that we love and also bring something new to it.”
She added, “That’s the goal, and I believe we will execute that goal.”

The mother of one also teased how fashionista Cher has transformed.
“I can’t wait to step back into Cher’s skin and her fancy designer shoes that will be gently used, of course — duh — because she’s evolved,” Silverstone said. “This is 2025. She’s not wearing the new stuff unless it’s, you know, sustainable or vegan. We’ll have to see how far we can go with that.”

In April, Silverstone celebrated the announcement of the Clueless TV project on Instagram, writing, “Totally buggin’… in the best way 💁♀️✨ (Swipe to see why 😉).” Instagram users who swiped went from a photo of Cher in 1995’s Clueless to a screenshot of a news report from Variety about the reboot.
Variety reported that Gossip Girl creators Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage are writing the TV sequel with Jordan Weiss (Freakier Friday and Dollface). Amy Heckerling, who wrote and directed Clueless, is involved as an executive producer, alongside Silverstone and Robert Lawrence.
Clueless, loosely inspired by Jane Austen’s novel Emma, came out 30 years ago. Aside from Silverstone, the film starred Paul Rudd, Stacey Dash, Donald Faison, Brittany Murphy and Dan Hedaya.
