NEED TO KNOW
Alicia Silverstone actually doesn’t know where her Clueless wardrobe is.
While promoting her upcoming Netflix rom-com A Merry Little Ex-Mas, Silverstone, 49, opened up about the iconic outfits she wore as Cher Horowitz in the 1995 film.
After wrapping Clueless, which also starred Paul Rudd, Stacey Dash, Donald Faison and Brittany Murphy, Silverstone says she didn’t have much use for Cher’s preppy, over-the-top wardrobe.
“Before I did Clueless, I really was a T-shirt and jeans kind of girl,” the actress recalls, adding, “I wasn’t too into fashion at all.”
So, Silverstone explains, “I ended up giving all the clothes away because I realized it was not working in my life. I gave them all away stupidly.”
The lucky recipient of the actress’ Clueless wardrobe was director and screenwriter Gia Coppola, who is the granddaughter of director Francis Ford Coppola.
“Lord only knows what Gia’s done with them,” Silverstone continues. “Gia doesn’t know where they are either, so she must have given them away, too. They all just are gone.”

Silverstone says that while she did try to incorporate Cher’s style into her own after the film wrapped, it ultimately didn’t work.
“After I did [Clueless] I thought, ‘Oh, I want to have all these clothes, I’m going to wear these clothes.’ Which was a delusional idea because I was not like that girl,” she recalls. “Who’s wearing Mary Janes and high stockings everywhere you go?”
Thirty years after the release of Clueless, Silverstone is gearing up to reprise her iconic role in the film.
During an August appearance on Today, the star gave an update about the upcoming sequel series to the 1995 coming-of-age comedy.
When asked what she could share about the Peacock series, she teased, “Not much,” before adding, “I’m really excited about it. I think we’re going to try really hard. The goal is to make it honor what everyone loves about Clueless and Cher.”

“So we want to honor that, but also bring something fresh and new to it,” she shared. “I’m confident that we’ll be able to do that, but we’re in baby stages right now.”
After Clueless’ release, a short-lived sitcom starring Rachel Blanchard as Cher aired from 1996 to 1999.
Silverstone announced the sequel series in April. “Totally buggin’… in the best way 💁♀️✨,” Silverstone wrote on Instagram at the time, alongside a still and a GIF from Clueless and a screenshot of Variety’s report about the project.
Plot details for the series are unknown, but Variety reported that it is a follow-up to the movie. Gossip Girl creators Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage are writing with Jordan Weiss. Amy Heckerling, who wrote and directed the film, is involved as an executive producer, alongside Silverstone and producer Robert Lawrence.
