Addison Rae says that she and Lana Del Rey shared more than just a concert bill over the summer — they’re also both perfectionists.
While speaking to Zane Lowe for Apple Music 1 in a clip posted Monday (Aug. 18), the TikToker gushed about her experience opening for the alt-pop pioneer at Wembley Stadium in early July. Rae also joined LDR for a couple of numbers during the main set at the shows, with the pair performing “Diet Pepsi” and “57.5” together.
“It was so fun,” Rae told Lowe. “Lana is one of the greatest artists of our generation — honestly, of our lifetime. I think she’s just incredible, and so kind and sweet, and so helpful and open.”
“She’s such a perfectionist, which is so inspiring to watch,” the social media star added. “I’m a perfectionist as well, and she never lets that go away. It’s really nice to see someone that is constantly wanting everything to be perfect for everyone to enjoy.”
The interview comes more than two months after the release of Addison, Rae’s debut studio album, which debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard 200. Many of the songs on the LP — including breakout hit “Diet Pepsi” — have been compared to Del Rey’s early sound.
“I will never forget this,” Rae wrote on Instagram shortly after performing with her idol. “Thank you so much to the most beautiful divine woman, heart, soul, mind… Lana. I am the happiest and luckiest girl on earth. Being next to you is spiritual.”
Del Rey is just one of several stars whose influence can be heard on Addison. Rae also took cues from childhood favorites such as Lady Gaga and Britney Spears, as well as mentor Charli xcx.
In honor of the album’s all-women production team, Rae and producers Luka Kloser and Elvira Anderfjärd recently sat down with Billboard for a cover story digging into their creative process. “I think the perspective of having a room of only females was just a really different energy than what we’re all used to,” Rae told senior writer Kristin Robinson. “It doesn’t really happen very often.”
“I didn’t expect it to happen this way, and I don’t think anybody else expected that from me, which was really nice, because I think it’s always good to have people unsure of what you’re going to do,” she added at the time. “We are all around the same age and have similar life experiences in a lot of ways, being women in this industry.”
