Martin Lawrence is excited to step into his new role as grandpa.
Following his daughter Jasmin and Eddie Murphy’s son Eric’s pregnancy announcement, the comedian and actor, 60, took to Instagram to share his excitement for the couple’s baby on the way.
The soon-to-be first-time grandfather shared pictures from his daughter’s maternity shoot to accompany his heartfelt caption.
“What a blessing to start the day! My heart is overflowing with love and gratitude after the announcement of my first grandchild!” he wrote. “Watching @jasmin_lawrence and @ericmurphy777 begin this journey into parenthood means everything to me.”
“Family is everything—and this moment is nothing less than a blessing from God,” Lawrence continued. “Welcome to the next generation! #blessed #prouddad #family”
The couple, who tied the knot last May, shared on Instagram on Monday, Feb. 2 that they are expecting their first baby together. In the black-and-white photo, Jasmin, 30, could be seen wearing an off-the-shoulder dress that highlighted her pregnant belly.
Eric, 36, had his head resting on Jasmin’s stomach, turning his head to face the camera. The mom-to-be smiled down at her husband in one photo, and was pictured standing by herself outside in a few others.
“Thank you Jesus for the greatest gift ❤️❤️❤️,” the couple wrote in their joint caption.
This past May, Murphy, 64, confirmed that his son Eric had quietly married Martin’s daughter in an intimate church ceremony. The Shrek star appeared on a May 29 episode of The Jennifer Hudson Show and shared that Eric and Jasmin got married around “two weeks ago” in a small church ceremony instead of having a grand wedding.
“They went off, everybody was making the big wedding plans, and then they decided they wanted to do something quiet with just the two of them,” he said, joking that Lawrence no longer has to pay for a “big wedding.” “We’re in-laws,” he added.
The Coming to America star said that the pair “didn’t have a wedding” but might have a larger celebration later.
“They went off and they got married at the church,” Murphy said. “They just had the two of them and the preacher. They had a quiet little thing. So I think we’ll have a big party or something.”

In November 2024, Eric popped the question to Jasmin after over three years of dating, and the pair announced the happy news through a sweet video shared on Instagram — which included footage of the moment Jasmin said “yes.”
The clip, set to “Spend My Life With You” by Eric Benét, showed the couple walking into a room decorated with candles, roses and flower petals, and then Eric getting down on one knee and opening his ring box.
“It’s beautiful! Oh my gosh,” Jasmin said of the engagement ring before saying “yes” and sharing a kiss with her now-husband.
Before the two got engaged, Murphy shared that he was okay with his son’s relationship — and even joked that he expected the couple’s future child to “be funny.” In an interview with CBS Mornings on July 2, 2024, he told Gayle King that he and his former Boomerang costar thought it was “cool” that their kids were in a relationship.
“They’re both beautiful,” he said. “They look amazing together. And it’s funny [because] everybody [asks], ‘What is that baby going to be funny?’”
“Just our gene pool is going to make this funny baby,” Murphy continued. “If they ever get married and have a child, I’m expecting the child to be funny.”
