Charli xcx would like to issue an apology.
The Brat singer, 33, appeared on stylist Nicky Campbell’s Gloves Off podcast on Wednesday, Jan. 28 to reflect on her past fashion looks, and she recalled a particular faux pas at the 2015 Grammys where bits of her outfit shed onto Mary J. Blige at the ceremony.
Charli wore a white suit with pink embellishments as well as a very fluffy pink stole to the 2015 Grammy Awards, which she described as “memorable… for all the wrong reasons.”
“I think it actually could’ve been better if I’d done different hair and makeup,” she said, claiming a “completely clean” cosmetic look and “really neat” hair would’ve improved the outfit. “But generally speaking, that’s just me, you know, trying to help myself out.”
The “Chains of Love” performer then explained how the outfit fared during the awards show. “The fluffy thing, that was molting everywhere… Like, in a way where I was sat down at the ceremony, and Mary J. Blige was sat in front of me. And she was getting covered in pink fluff,” she said.

“I didn’t have the heart to either tell her or start picking it off her, and I just let it be,” continued Charli.
Campbell suggested Charli apologize to the “Family Affair” icon, 55, so she did. “Mary J. Blige, I’m so sorry for ruining your outfit with my fluff,” she said.
Charli’s attendance at the 2015 Grammys coincided with her first-ever nominations at the awards show for Record of the Year and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance with the Iggy Azalea collaboration “Fancy.”
Blige was nominated the same year for Best Dance Recording with the Disclosure collaboration “F for You.” The 9-time Grammy winner also performed “Stay with Me” as a duet with Sam Smith at the ceremony.

Last year was huge for Charli at the Grammys, as she won three awards: Best Dance/Electronic Album and Best Recording Package for Brat, as well as Best Dance Pop Recording for “Von Dutch.”
The “Apple” musician’s quite busy right now. Her mockumentary film The Moment was released in theaters on Friday, Jan. 30, while her soundtrack for Emerald Fennell’s Wuthering Heights adaptation is set to drop on Friday, Feb. 13.
