British singer Emeli Sandé is no longer engaged.
On Monday, Jan. 19, the singer, 38, told The Sun that she and her fiancée, Yoana Karemova, have split.
“Sadly, we decided to separate in the summer. We both care very much for each other but needed to focus our time and energy on our music careers,” the “Next to Me” singer told the outlet.
Sandé first opened up about their relationship in April 2022, telling Metro that she and Karemova, a classical pianist, “met through music.”
At the time, Sandé did not share an explicit label on her sexuality with the outlet, saying, “I’m not sure what I identify as but I guess so. I just feel like I should fall in love with whoever I fall in love with.”

“It’s taken me many years to find the strength to be myself. I’ve struggled for a long time to accept myself as I am,” Sandé wrote on social media after publicly revealing her relationship with Karemova. “I’m so lucky to have found my soul mate Yoana, she’s such an extraordinary woman!”
The couple announced their engagement in September 2022. The singer posted a social media photo that featured her showing off her new ring. Sandé later shared two more photos to her Instagram Stories of her new bling and a photo with Karemova.
The pair planned to marry in 2023, but had to cancel their wedding due to Sandé’s schedule.
“We’ve kind of put them on hold until I get this album out and we do the shows this year but we’ll probably start planning next year or early next year,” she told Metro in November 2023.
