Savannah Guthrie couldn’t stay away from the Today show, even while recovering from vocal surgery.
The 54-year-old co-anchor underwent the surgery earlier this month, and is in the midst of her silent recovery, using a whiteboard to communicate.
As a part of her “Morning Boost” segment, Jenna Bush Hager called in to Guthrie during week two of her recovery on Monday, Jan. 12.
Guthrie greeted her fellow co-hosts, holding up a whiteboard that read, “Hi! Miss you!”
When asked how she was doing, Guthrie replied with three words, “good, boring, quiet,” to which Carson Daly joked, “This feels like a Jimmy Fallon gameshow.”
“I was telling them how I called you the other week for you not to answer so your voicemail would play but you answered and just clapped over and over again like a seal,” Bush Hager quipped of her friend.

As for how she’s keeping busy during her mandatory time away, Guthrie shared that she’s been journaling, reading, doing daily meditations and “trying to grow as a human.”
She also shared some of her watercolor paintings, including a few landscapes and one of the Today show logo.
The mother of two noted that she will be back on the NBC morning show in one week after she has fulfilled her recovery time.

She added a funny message from her kids, Vale, 11, and Charley, 9, writing, “The kids said ‘Mom even when you’re quiet, you’re still loud.’ ”
And she picked up a second whiteboard joking, “We’re gonna need a bigger white board.”

Craig Melvin assured his co-anchor, “Can’t wait to get you back, SG,” and Guthrie even got some love from former co-anchor Hoda Kotb, who happened to be in the studio after reporting a segment on the U.S. gymnastics team.
Guthrie announced her brief hiatus from Today back in December.
“Some of you have noticed that my voice has been very scratchy and started to crack a little bit,” Guthrie shared on Dec. 19. “Well, I have found out what it is. I have vocal nodules and I also have a polyp. It’s not a big, big deal, but I am going to have to have a surgery in the new year and be off for a couple of weeks, so this is my last day for a little while.”
