All About the Little Mix Alum’s Daughters Ocean and Story

Jesy Nelson’s twins may be young, but she has described them as fighters.

In May 2025, the Little Mix alum welcomed daughters Ocean Jade and Story Monroe with musician Zion Foster, who she announced her engagement to that September. They were born prematurely at nearly 31 weeks and remained in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) for several weeks, having experienced a slew of health issues even before they were born.

A few months later, Nelson shared on Jan. 4 that the baby twins have been diagnosed with a “severe muscular disease” known as Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) Type 1, which could result in them being disabled.

She shared in an Instagram video that the last three months have been “the most heartbreaking time of my life,” adding that she feels like she is “grieving” the life she thought she was going to have with her children.

“I have to be grateful because at the end of the day, they’re still here and that’s the main thing and they’ve had the treatment,” Nelson said. “And I truly believe that my girls will defy all the odds and, with the right help, they will fight this.”

Meanwhile, Foster shared Nelson’s video to his Instagram Stories, followed by a new photo of Ocean and Story, captioned, “Still smiling through all the challenges. Daddy loves you so much.”

The twins had health issues before they were born

Nelson first announced her pregnancy on Instagram in January 2025, sharing a Polaroid-style photo with Foster, captioned, “She’s eating for 3 now 👶👶.”

A few months later, Nelson shared that the twins were monochorionic diamniotic (MCDA) and sharing a single placenta.

The singer explained in a candid video at the time that “one baby might take all the nutrients” from the placenta, or “the other might, which — really awful to say — could lead to both babies dying.”

A few days later, Nelson experienced symptoms including stomach tightening and difficulty breathing. The singer captioned the video, “TTTS update,” referring to twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome.

After a checkup at the hospital, Nelson said doctors determined they had to “perform the procedure” in order to “give our babies the best chance of surviving.”

By the end of March, Nelson shared another update on Instagram and said she and Foster had “some amazing news.”

“The TTTS has cleared up. The operation was a success, which is just absolutely incredible. We are so, so lucky,” she said. “Every week, we’re like, please, please stay in there.”

Ocean and Story were born in May 2025

On May 15, 2025, Nelson and Foster welcomed their twin daughters: Ocean Jade and Story Monroe.

Nelson shared the news on Instagram a few days later, writing, “So … Our beautiful baby girls decided to come at 31 weeks plus 5 days.”

“It all happened so quickly, but we are so blessed that they are here with us, healthy and fighting strong!” she wrote. “We’ve never felt more in love 🥹.”

The twins had to stay in the neonatal intensive care unit for several weeks

Following their births, Ocean and Story had to stay in the NICU for several weeks. Nelson opened up about the experience in a May 2025 Instagram post, writing, “Nothing or no one will ever be able to prepare you as a parent for NICU.”

“It’s the most scary overwhelming feeling of emotions not being able to feel like you can protect your babies,” she wrote. “Naturally as a mother you just want to hold them and comfort them when they cry but you can’t because there are what feels like a million wires coming out of them and tubes and masks in the way with people poking and prodding them it breaks your heart into a million pieces.”

Nelson added, “Having them reunited for the first time ever today was the most magical feeling I will never be able to describe 🥹 the strongest little girls I’ve ever known who really do have the most inspiring story to tell 🤍.”

Ocean and Story were finally able to be brought home in mid June 2025, just in time for Nelson’s 34th birthday.

“My babies made it home for my birthday 🥹🤍,” Nelson wrote on Instagram at the time.

Nelson said the twins are the “best gift” that has ever happened to her

In October 2025, Nelson shared a lengthy message on Instagram in which she detailed how her twins have helped her realize “how incredible” her body is.

“I can honestly say I’ve never felt prouder of my body and what it has been through!” she captioned the post. “Yes my boobs hang lower and my belly is bigger and squishier – it doesnt look how it used to, but my god it created the best gift that has ever happened to me.”

She went on to write that she is looking forward to showing her daughters “the first place they called home and the place where they defied all the odds.”

Nelson added, “If there’s anything I’ve learned over the past 9 months of being pregnant, it’s that I never want my girls to feel the way I did about my body for so many years.”

The twins have a rare neuromuscular disorder

Nelson started off 2026 by getting candid about her daughters’ rare health diagnoses. In a video shared on Instagram on Jan. 4, she revealed that after months of “endless appointments,” her 8-month-old daughters have been diagnosed with a rare neuromuscular disorder called Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) Type 1.

SMA is an inherited neuromuscular disorder that weakens and wastes away muscles due to the loss of a specific nerve cell in your spinal cord that controls muscle movement, per Cleveland Clinic.

The “Boyz” singer broke down in tears as she recalled being told her daughters would most likely be disabled as a result of their condition and would require treatment immediately.

“We were told that they’re probably never gonna be able to walk, they probably will never regain their neck strength so they will be disabled. And so the best thing we can do right now is to get them treatment and then just hope for the best,” she said, explaining that if the disease goes untreated, life expectancy is lowered to two years of age.
