Michael Schur opened up about collaborating with Ted Danson.
The television show creator, 50, has worked with Danson, 77, on Netflix’s A Man on the Inside and the NBC’s The Good Place. While speaking exclusively with PEOPLE at a Paley Center event in New York City, he explained why the actor “impresses me every day.”
“No one’s more dedicated,” Schur said of the two-time Emmy winner. “Nobody cares more. He’s been doing this for 50 years. If he wanted to phone it in, he could totally phone it in and everyone would be fine with it, but he never phones it in.”

He continued, “He just works so hard. He cares so much. He is so thoughtful about the way he goes about his craft, and what he brings to the set every day is incredible.”
Schur complimented Danson for the scope of his career, which has seen him star in Cheers, Becker, Fargo and Mr. Mayor.
“I mean, who has more range? Think about his career. It’s multi-cam comedy, and then Damages and then single-camera comedy. He’s done everything, like Bored to Death,” the television writer said.
“The tones of the shows that he’s done, they run the gamut. You can’t have a wider range than that guy,” he added.
Schur and Danson are currently working on A Man on the Inside, which stars the actor as retiree-turned-private-investigator Charles Nieuwendyk.
The series premiered its second season on Nov. 20, which introduced Danson’s real-life wife Mary Steenburgen as Mona Margadoff, a music professor and Charles’s love interest.

Mary Elizabeth Ellis, Stephanie Beatriz and Lilah Richcreek Estrada also star in the show.
Danson previously praised Schur’s work in an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, saying, “Mike Schur is one of those amazing writers who knows who you are and writes to who you are. So it fits like a glove. It’s just wonderful.”
A Man on the Inside is available to stream on Netflix.
