NEED TO KNOW
Wedding bells are ringing in Midland!
In the Dec. 28th episode of Landman, Cooper (Jacob Lofland) proposed to Ariana (Paulina Chávez) in a romantic, candle-lit surprise when she came home from a shift at the Patch.
She walked in to find a trail of rose petals leading the way to the backyard, where candles were arranged in the shape of a heart, with rose petals filling the shape. Cooper was asleep in a chair nearby, but woke up the second Ariana opened the sliding doors.
“Why are you so nervous?” she asked him. “I already said we should do this.”
“Well, I’ve just noticed this pattern of you changing your mind pretty quickly,” Cooper admitted.
“I don’t change my mind. Circumstances change, and I change with them,” Ariana retorted, but Cooper made her a promise: “Circumstances are always gonna change, but I won’t.”

He then began to propose, as he got down on one knee and told her, “The way I feel right now, it will never…” but his speech wasn’t shared. Instead, viewers saw him propose and then saw Ariana say yes and kiss him.
“Forever’s a long time,” she told him, wary.
But Cooper disagreed. “No. It’ll be over before we know it,” he said. “So we better not waste a second.”

Ahead of the premiere of season 2, Lofland and Chávez told PEOPLE that they are both rooting for Cooper and Ariana to end up together. “We always are going to root for it, just because we love working together,” Lofland, 29, says.
Chávez, 23, admits she’s a “hopeless romantic, so I believe in love and all of that stuff, and I do believe in their storyline.”
As for the break Cooper and Ariana took earlier this season, Chávez explains, “When you’re going into a relationship so full force, sometimes you need to take a step back to be like, okay, what do I need and what do I want? And is this going to work with my lifestyle?”

Ariana is “coming back to herself” in season 2, she adds. “Grief is something that never goes away, you grow around it. And I think this season, she’s just bolder, stronger, and better than ever — and she is not afraid to speak her mind.”
“I adore her so much, but she definitely does humble Cooper,” Chávez says. “She’s very fierce.”
Lofland is happy to be by the side of such a “fierce woman.”
“Taylor does a great job at writing some very powerful women,” he says of the show’s creator, Taylor Sheridan. “It’s amazing.”
