Rob and Michele were killed in “approximately the early morning hours” of Dec. 14, Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman said in a new statement on Tuesday, Dec. 16.
“In approximately the early morning hours of December 14, Reiner is accused of fatally stabbing Rob Reiner, 78, and Michele Singer Reiner, 70, at their home in the 200 block of South Chadbourne Avenue in Brentwood,” the statement reads. “Nick Reiner fled but was arrested hours later that evening in Exposition Park.”
Nick, 32, has been charged with “two counts of murder with the special circumstance allegation of multiple murders, and a special allegation that he personally used a dangerous and deadly weapon, a knife,” the statement reads.

Los Angeles District Attorney Nathan Hochman told reporters during a press conference on Tuesday, Dec. 16 that the time of death for Rob and Michele remains unclear, as they’re awaiting the completion of autopsies.
Hochman said “specificity” on time and date of death was not yet available.
Rob and Michele were found dead inside their Brentwood home on Sunday, Dec. 14. PEOPLE previously reported that on Saturday, Dec. 13, Rob and Nick got into a heated argument at a holiday party, according to multiple sources. TMZ first reported that the party was hosted by Conan O’Brien, which two sources confirmed to PEOPLE.

The Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office formally announced charges against Nick in the death of his parents Rob and Michele on Tuesday, Dec. 16 during a press conference in Los Angeles.
The following charges will be filed against Nick: 2 counts of first degree murder with a special allegation of using a knife, DA Nathan Hochman said.
The charges carry a maximum sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole or the death penalty.

Nick Reiner has not been medically cleared to appear in court for his first hearing after being arrested on murder charges following his parents’ deaths.
Nick has hired prominent defense attorney Alan Jackson to represent him, PEOPLE confirms. Jackson famously represented Karen Read, the woman who was accused and acquitted of murdering her boyfriend John O’Keefe.
Jackson told reporters that Nick not making an appearance is a “procedural issue.”

Rob and Nick got into a heated argument at a holiday party the night before the director and his wife Michele were killed on the afternoon of Sunday, Dec. 14, multiple sources at the party tell PEOPLE.
TMZ first reported on Monday that Rob and Nick got into a “very loud argument” at a Christmas party hosted by Conan O’Brien on Saturday night.

Nick Reiner Was Found Hours After His Parents’ Bodies Were Discovered

Nick was not at the home of his late parents when their bodies were discovered inside on Sunday, Dec. 14.
Nick left his parents’ home in the Brentwood neighborhood of Los Angeles and traveled a short distance away, where he was ultimately located by police near the campus of the University of Southern California.
Authorities were able to “quickly” locate Nick near the campus, the outlet reported, where he was arrested on suspicion of murder at around 9:15 p.m. on Sunday.
